Hey guys! We have really been taking a break from the mod work lately, but now we are back to work for a few months. What I have for you all now is the Ingram Mac 10 (WIP). Any suggestions or crits to make it better would be appreciated. This one is just under 4000 triangles.

nice! anychance of a wireframe? 4000 is alot for a gun model.

:| 4000 triangles for this model is way too much...

you forgot the little bump on the handle on the ejection side

nice model . no other crits from me :D
btw : how did you model the rear stock ?

Great looking model but way too high on the poly's, your waisting them somewhere. Post a wireframe.

looks good but polys are out of control like evey1 has already said

Remember this is still a WIP, and still needs to be optimized. So far, I've lowered it to 3500 triangles without losing any detail. Plus, this is the player weapon model. Enemies will have lower res models to keep framerate good. The lower res models will only be 1500-2000 triangles. So, there will only be one of these higher res models onscreen. As for the stock question, I made the stock from one cylinder. I just put a bend modifier on it until it bended completely back, then extruded the ends and shaped them into the stock. Thanks for the comments guys, I'll still be optimizing this tommorow and post the finished product. Now, all I need is a good weapon skinner, which are very rare... ;(

can we have a wireframe so we can help u lower the polycount?

the wasted polies are on the end of the barrel 8 sides max. the stock thing thats a cylinder only needs to be like 6 or 8 sides too that will save alot of polies, also the indent where the trigger is doesnt need to be there, looks like you have alot of wasted polies on the back of the handle. how many bullets are in the magazine?

Nice model Thorvale. The Mac10' is one of my favourite guns. I like it even more than your UMP. Good luck with optimizing it.

Ok, I've managed to get it down to 3200 ploys, since my estimates were off. It was really about 4500 polys in the beginning. So, I'll post the wire later, since I'm in a hurry right now. But 3200 is good enough for me, especially since there will be only one on screen, as I said before, the others will be lower res. Also, the bullet took WAY too many polys, so I just took that out. It was really just for show. I've also sorted out smoothing groups.

3200 is still too much maybe you should learn some better way to make weapon model.

Yea i also think its abit hight especily for the size of the weapon, its not really a big/complicated weapon, i would aim for >2500. But it does look really nice.

3200 is a little to high but I don't think his modeling technique is wrong. The weapon looks pretty well done but the MAC is a squarish weapon so it should use alot less poly than a m4 for example. There are some curve/round stuff that could use less poly and use normal maps instead to give that roundness but at this point it's up to him to decide if he wants to keep it with 3200 polys, it's still very playable but 2500-2800 would be alot better and with a good texture and a good normal map nobody would notice the difference.

Anyway, good job :)

I used planar modeling for all my weapons, like in Ichi's VTM. I've lowered it to 2680 triangles, and that is definitely good enough for me. As you can see, I took out the holes, but they'll be replaced with a normal mapped texture. Here is the finished product. More renders will come soon.

ps: Any weapon skinners and modelers out there we could use your help, we have like 70 weapons to model:D

he can easily accomplish a lower polygon count if he puts in it ingame, but using a smart techniquie CSS uses, they only have one side of the gun, and that side is extremely high in detail, so then they delete the other side and it looks really cool, I think it's smart to do that, and also the Mac 10 is looking nice :D
