Well here it goes, i downloaded the steaminstall_full the 700+mb one and the 300+mb cs one and i get this error when i try to install it..

"AN I/O ERROR OCCURRED WHILE INSTALLING A FILE. THIS IS NORMALLY CAUSED BY BAD INSTALLATION MEDIA OR A CURROPT INSTALLATION FILE"

this happens once i click next (to install)
the file is c:\...\steam\steamapps\counter-strike.gcf

then the installation setup closes and i cant install steam.....

i have downloaded steaminstall_full again from another mirror site, and the same probleme occurs, help me plz i dont know what else to do.

i actually just uninstalled the beta version of steam i got from a friend who got it off of kazaa. maybe that messed it up somehow?

i would be greatful if you could help me.

thanks !

Steam is a bitch to install, but once you get it started it usually works ok after that. I only used the steaminstaller_cs.exe file (~390mb).. After a couple of reboots and some foul words being said I finally got the piece of crap to work :cheese:.

I suggest you uninstall the files that got installed, or at least remove them manually.. Try using the steaminstaller_cs.exe file only and see if it works. Don't try to start any game if you get it installed btw, I suggest closing down the program once first and restarting or rebooting the system would be best, before you start using it.. It really helps.

Remember Steam can be really slow.. Sometimes it seems like it hangs but it really doesn't, even if windows says that it's not responding.. give it some time. If nothing happens after 10mins then terminate it and try again.

Btw, Steam/HL/CS never asked me for my cd-key.. And I have a newly installed system that has never had HL installed, so the key is not in my registry.

seriously, there is a problem if steam DOESNT give u an error message
steam will just do these things all the time.

um thanks but, if u noticed, i cant even get it installed....

ive tried, no one has answered me :(
i even mailed the steam officals and they dont answer,
what a piece of shit company

anyone want to help? any steam people? i mean i cant even install it......
and no one has a clue, dont u think thats a bit much
