Installing HL2 gift from DVD

Hi all,

Sorry if this has already beeen posted.

I recently purchased Orange Box but had already previously bought HL2 over steam when it first came out.

I have given my old HL2 copy as a gift to my friend via steam. He would like to play it but is unable to download HL2 from steam. How can I install it off the orange box DVD rather than DL the whole game?

I'm not entirely sure, but if you browse the DVD there should be lots of .GCF files. Copy these files over to your friends' "steamapps" folder in his steam installation.
IF the GCF files aren't there then you can get them from your steamapps folder of your user and just copy them onto a DVD/Pen drive and give them to him.
