Instant respawn sucks

I'm sick of having to search thorugh ten different servers before finally finding one without instant spawn (some of them have been kind enough to warn you in the server name and save you the trouble). Anyone else tired of that shit? This isn't HL2: DM, instant respawn destroys the balance of the whole game and ruins most of the fun. I have no idea why anyone would prefer that to the real gameplay.

Fake player counts piss me off too. :\

Wait, that's a server thing? I assumed it was a bug with Valve's server browser.

nope, its a script to attract players to the server.

I might just GTFO from their servers, then.

Keep an eye on this thread, good servers running vanilla TF2 with no bullshit as mentioned above. :)

IR does suck and it seems to be gaining in popularity. I pity the new player who joins a IR server and thinks it represents how the game is meant to be played.

Is this a problem on other games with respawn timers? The Battlefield games, CoD and DoD don't have this problem as I recall.

I think TFC2 can be good with the non-quick spawn and the quick spawn.

I'm used to the quick-spawn, I don't care to much.

Sometimes it's fun on, say 2Fort, where it's a fragfest anyway. On cp_ maps, it can be a little weird... definitely changes the gameplay.

It's bullshit. Turns everything into a spamfest and makes final pushes towards the points just beside spawn next to impossible.

I avoid instant respawn like the plague.

I play on them sometimes, but I have gotten back to timed ones recently for the reasons you guys mention. I liked them early on when starting to play a class that I wasn't familiar with, so I didn't have to wait to respawn because of dying from just getting used to the play style. It was like taking a class, like "oops you died, here, try again."

IR drives me crazy. It sucks when you join, have no idea, and start killing people and wonder how the hell they are showing up so quick...then it hits you, and you leave.

never minded it on 2fort, but on CP and payload maps I have to agree, but tbh ive never found that many servers that have IR on those types of maps.

One of Valve's TF 2 blog entries was about the respawn times - how and why they were chosen - and it sums up pretty well why the gameplay needs them. It's sad to see all that balancing go to waste with these modern impatient kill-kill-kill-kiddies and their POS servers... I goddamn hate the kiddies!

I'd calm down but default settings servers are a minority these days. That's wrong on too many levels.

Aren't there server tags on the right side in the browser, so you can order them by whatever they're modded with? Gravity, alltalk, instaspawn, Hlstatsx (still don't know how that points system really works) etcetera.
But then I only visit maybe 4 or 5 different servers anyway. No need to use that Internet tab when I've got my favorites.

The problem with server tags, is they are optional, so alot of servers dont state what mods they use, finding truely vanilla or close to vanilla servers is damn hard.

I didnt know the plague avioded insta respawn, yet alone, play it.

You do no comprehend well do you? Avoid like the plague...as in avoid it same as I avoid the plague.

I haven't played or found any instant respawn in a while, I preferred it actually. From what I experienced, it only mean't instant playing.

TFC had instant respawn, therefore I play with instant respawn.

"Modern impatience" my asshole.

I think you're the one lacking comprehension here.

But TFC is a million times faster paces than TF2. If I want to play a a TF game that is really fast paced and new, I just hop on Fortress Forever. That game is STILL hella fun.

Really, I just don't want to wait 12-20 seconds to ****ing respawn.

I actually prefer IR but that's just me to each his own :)

Someone said that only instant respawn will live, that would be sad. Instant respawning leaves little time for calculated attacks and other things. Matches would look like a mess. I like slow respawn better. Plus slow is the way Valve meant it to be.

I sort of stopped playing about 2 months ago when I started hitting servers using "vanilla" tag and containing a bunch of scripts from varying from low gravity to HLStatX. If I could without any additional cost, I'd sell my TF2 key to someone since it's obvious the real fun times are past us.

Speak for yourself.

Being a regular on a good server, playing with my flatmate and a couple of other friends, it's still as much fun as it was at release. More fun actually due to the nice updates.

Come down under. ISPs provide all the vanilla servers you need.

And yet I have no such problems. Sucks to be you guys.
