Insurgency Celebrate Imminent Release.

Bad taste for employing political messages? You must have great taste for assuming we employed political messages when in reality everything mentioned in the trailer was un-bias'd fact, and we've received complaints that it's both pro-US and pro-Insurgents. Does that really imply that we intended it one way?

Man, some of the people that used to rip on INS really don't want to admit that the mod might be good :)

You can't ever win on that score. If you're getting complaints from both sides, you just have to take the point of view that you're being fair and balanced :)

Nope, and if you really care enough to make a big deal about this we can debate it, I don't mind. I have a lot of firsthand knowledge from my time doing ROTC and my nights of Wikipedia reading :)

I know it will be great, I just like to criticize anything I can

There's really only one small part of the trailer that could be considered bias. Near the end it states "Not greeted as liberators, but as invaders". Now this is really getting into petty semantics, but the way I interpreted that, the Video is stating that the Americans are liberators, but they are viewed as invaders. I'd have preferred it if it was giving the message that the Americans thought of themselves as liberators, but were viewed as invaders - because its not exactly an unbias fact that the Americans are "liberators". There are in fact many other reasons for them being there (e.g. to secure oil for America, for bush to do what his daddy couldn't etc).

I should also point out that I'm not making this argument to "bash" the mod, as it is a game I've been eagerly anticipating for quite a long time.

I have a hard time associating "Wikipedia" with "unbias" and "factual" ;)

Yeah, wikipedia's not factual at all.

College professors frown upon its usage for papers.

^^ Quite true. To be fair, I'm not going to deny that there are some excellent articles on Wikipedia. The problem lies in the fact that anyone can write anything they want on there, and until someone more knowledgeable corrects a fault, it will be taken as a fact by the uneducated on the topic. I can think of countless entries on there that have no references at all for the "facts" that they quote.

Yah, and your statements about oil and Bush are completely factual. Not. Playing psychologist or pretending you know everything about the US market for oil only makes your slanted political views look even less credible. Do the internet/Wikipedia a favor and never post your opinions anywhere, thanks.

Getting back on topic, the Insurgency site is down after the latest Steam news update that links to their site. They certainly seem to be attracting a lot of attention now :) .

I don't recall making any personal attacks on anyone, so just keep it to yourself, thanks. I'm not forcing my views onto people, I just don't agree with a war based on lies (weapons of mass destruction, anyone?). If you agree with the war then that's fine, I respect your right to an opinion, as you should respect my right to voice my opinion. If you think that makes my views slanted then so be it. I'll admit, the "war for oil" line was somewhat of a cheap shot. I should have used some material that was more politically correct.

Looking v.good, but I'm a little bit ambivalent about playing a game that involves a current conflict...:|

i was thinking the same ... its kinda too soon to be depicting the deaths of our soldiers

it says it on their website... or am I missing something :D

From their website:

"This is because we're very close to the release of the mod! (June '07)"

I'm pretty certain that means 2007. In any case, at least it's close. :D

Wish this would've been released today. :(

End of June the devs said on the forums. :|

Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? Is it out yet? :D

An announcement on their forums says it'll be out this weekend. :)

game out yet?, waiting till the last day of the month is lame :/

Ok, this is a beast of a thread now with bit's of info spread about the place, so here's a quick overview for those who can't be bothered to trawl through it all:

Release info
To this day I say worst case scenario is a Sunday release, as we're still shooting for Saturday.

Oh, and you guys should really start getting excited now, as you guys are really in for a treat.

We're also gonna be doing a promotional deal with Fileplanet so that for the first 3 hours we will post only Fileplanet mirrors on our official site. However, we negotiated with them so that we can post other mirrors on our forums just for you guys, our community smile.gif

So, as community members you guys can expect access to exclusive mirrors, torrents, etc, while the masses are using Fileplanet.

By the way... we were gonna have 5 maps originally, now its looking like 7 smile.gif And they're all really awesome maps.

Feature-wise I think everything will be in. There will be some bugs, but none of them hurt your ability to have fun, and all of them will be sorted in patches.

We ended up getting quite a few features in that we didn't expect to make it smile.gif

The mod will be ~700mb

Included maps on release
ins_almaden
Push map (Attack/Defend), 4 Linear objectives, moving spawns

ins_ambush

V-Man's Thoughts on Insurgency

I think it looks like a terrific game, but I think it's going to raise a lot of controversy due to the fact that it's set in Iraq and whatnot.
I'd love to play it but I'm not much of a mod type person.

Lol, website is down. Someone didn't pay for enough bandwidth.

Make sure links are posted over here, we are semi-exclusive too, being a HL2 community and all. :p

yeah, I hope they prepare for the giant influx of website hits

well I guess it has been delayed... am I right?

Yes, it will be released 12.00 GMT, but because I live in the Netherlands (GMT+1) it will be released 1 pm here. It's coming though (i hope, you never know if it's delayed once again)!
