Intel Q965 Overclocking

So I'm stuck with this Dell whose BIOS doesn't support overclocking - can't change the clocks, multipliers or voltages on ANYTHING. I've been able to OC my 8800GT by using nTune, but I don't think I've been able to do all I can because I can't up the voltage at all on the PCI-E port.

So, is there any way to do an OC if the BIOS doesn't support it? Is it possible/advisable to flash to another bios on an OEM machine like a Dell?

Nope. Upgrading the mainboard is the way to go.

Then no OC-ing for you. You can upgrade BIOS to a newer version and it'll still be locked. Meaning, upgrading MB is the only way to go: Dell does not want you to change hardware settings.

Even if you could access the overclocking features on your motherboard odds are you won't be able to do much overclocking with it. My Medion PC had the overclocking features locked out, but i found the password and combination to access it, only to find out that the motherboard can't handle much more than it already was. OEM PC's tend to use a motherboard that can just about handle the processor current speed and nothing more.

That's exactly why OEM MB settings are locked. Mostly Micro boards, they only handle the basics, that's all.

It is always wise to build your own setup. It's not only Dell, all OEM setups are mostly mediocre, no matter what the specs tell you. Unless you're willing to chop over $3000.00, you're buying the basics. And even that, you could build much better setup than "Over-The-Top" OEMs with 3k.
