Intel's future processor

I hate articles like that .. they always say that some new super-cool technology has been discovered yet offer no real examples of how it would work and when we would see it.

We're trying to siliconize photonics.

Yeah, that summarizes it quite a bit.

as lonederanger said, they have yet to ACTUALLY discover the way of creating it...so many articles just say that companies have discovered new ways in which to improve speed of processors but they have not actually created it

Exactly, in a way.

This is somewhat old news, except for the part that Intel is thinking of implementing it into their new CPU's. Other comapnies have made prototypes that were for experimental use. However as this article says http://www.cpuplanet.com/features/article.php/2174101 the lazers are far too large to fit into any chip. And if Intel can find a way to do this, which they most likely will, then we might be moving to a new standard besides the AMD 64...Scary...

This isn't for chips but a way to bridge systems with comm.
Silicon is here to stay. If they can design it and get some samples up and running, great.
Glad some look far into the future because I'm not.
