I've been watching some CS:Source video's from people here and everytime someone is blown up by a grenade their body flies off but as they are flying through the air they just sorta stiffen up and remain in that position until they hit the ground.

It's kinda picky, i know, but shouldn't they move a little in the air still?

Don't know, kind of sounds like a plan though.

Could be easily modded I'm guessing.

It kind of seem's as though there's too much friction in the air and it just stops the body

Probably can be controlled through a command. For example, "sv_airaccelerate" or airfriction

Sounds bizarre! I'll have to look for it WHEN THEY UNLOCK THE BETA! :p

Y should the body move in the air? does it hit something there?

I was just about to say that, it won't move in the air unless it hits something.

The force of the grenade, if It caused a body to go airborne would in fact cause the arms and legs to flail from their current position.

Yeah it looks odd but it's still fun to watch them fly. I suppose it's less-noticeable ingame :)

Well bodies do not just go absolutely limp when a grenade hits them. in real life a grenade explosion doesn't kill anyone instantly so if you were ever to fly out like that (highly unlikely anyways) the person would indeed move in the air instead of limp around lifelessly.

It does look weird when dead bodies just do sommesaults in the air when a grenade explodes and I found it looks weird in every Havok enabled game. MP2 does the same thing :(

it is because the bodies are all calulated as one weight.

To make it more realistic you would need to program different gravity settings for limbs and upper body as well as the head to make it more true to life. This would take up more computing power though. Or maybe no one thought of it yet but thats the truth of the matter.

Actually if you were near a grenade when it exploded it would probably decapitate you...

Beta!!!!!!!

Thanks for reminding that the Source physics engine is only at betastage yet, after six years that is quite easy to forget.

This is stuff that is handled in havok 2.0.

Unfortunately, HL2 uses 1.0, modified.

Actually if you are within say five feet of a grenade, the concussive blast alone would have a tendency to liquefy your insides, giving way to what is called the butterfly effect (NO! Not the movie), it is when your internal organs deteriorate due to the extreme vibrations caused by the shockwave of the explosion, the resulting organ smoothie then settles in your chest cavity, and with a x-ray you will see a butterfly looking shape. Anyway, yes, if you are close enough to a grenade it WILL kill you instantly.

I was just gonna say, there are many ways you could die instantly. Like what mirageacg said or maybe some shrapnel could shoot out and slam ints way into your skull and brain, killing you. You dont know what your talking about.

"It is because the bodies are all calulated as one weight." Nope, Havok has each body part with a set weight which is determined by the developer. I work with MP2 mods so I know how ther ragdolls work. They use variables for weight, friction, inertiatensor and restitution. They also have a relative weight variable which lets you tell the engine how heavy a part is compared to the other parts in the ragdoll.

As for grenades killing instantly, yes, I should have mentioned that SOMETIMES people get killed instantly but most of times they don't. Grenades aren't made to kill people, they are made to MAIM and INCAPACITATE them because a maimed enemy is far better than a dead one. If you want a deeper explanation as to why this is true then just go look at some war journals and websites related to that sort of stuff.

Perhaps Rico is confusing a real M80 frag grenade (or is that a firework? lol.. been so long) for a waterballoon maybe..?

The shrapnel alone is more than enough to kill someone, so don't say it doesn't happen. It is very possible, and it does happen... but as far as how often, like what percentage of all frags thrown are instagibs (oops.. UT2k4's takin' over lol), I have no idea. But yeah.. to reiterate: possible, yes.. probable? erm.. not sure =/ lol

EDIT: why does the word probable look like proBABBLE to me??

Thank you for your very graphic depiction...

I just lost my appetite :|

If a corpse was launched by a grenade it would probablly do the same thing.

Maybe they need to add some animations to being killed by a grenade, like you get killed, then a flailing animation runs till part of the model hits something, then the rag doll turns on.

Nah.. too movie like.

I want realism with my CS damnit! lol

Speakin of which. Would be interesting if they brought back the concussion grenades from the CS betas.. they were flashbangs, but they also spit out shrapnel with the flash. A double whammy if u will. Would be pretty interesting if they brought it in with CS:S... throw a concussion grenade into the halls of Dust, with about 6 Ts in the vicinity... some very unhappy Terrorists lol

EDIT: granted concussion grenades aren't real, but what if they incorporated the whole shrapnel thing into the frags... that would be really interesting :)

yea i notice they lose momentum really quickly.

WHY DO YOU CARE? I DONT CARE IF SOME GUYS ARM DOESNT MOVE AN INCH OR SO IN THE AIR WHEN I BLOW HIM INTO THE AIR WITH A GRENADE, JUST BE HAPPY YOUR ACTUALLY ABLE TO PLAY BETA YOU INCONSIDERATE ****ER

Sounds like someone's cranky about not being in the beta or something.

Everyone playing the beta paid some price for it, we didn't just get it for free, people who bought CZ paid for their game, people with vouchers paid for the card. Inconsiderate? These are suggestions as to what people would like to see in the game, if the game were already perfect it wouldn't be a beta and we wouldn't have anything to suggest about it.

phoneix ... oh my ****ign god dont spam the thread with your bullshit! we're not inconsiderate ... were just saying when the body stops moving in the air it looks like a cardboard cutout ... shutup phoenxi ...

Three letters:

P-M-S

1. Its spelt pheonix
2. Figure out how to spell it
3. Cant be bothered to write more waiting for beta

They fly around in HL2. Remember the blink where Gordon charges a street with Barney? He shoots a combine a 100 feet off the ground and he falls and spins all the way down.

I don't know why they wont have it on CS:S.
