Interesting Things in the new Official Shots

I noticed some intertesting things in the 9 new screenshots on Gamespy...

1) In this shot: http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/492/492830/img_2101783.html

the MP7 has 36 shots remaining in the clip. In the barricade video from last year, when it reloads, it holds 30.

2) In most of the shots, the crosshair is the same as in HL1. Whatever happened to the Ammo/Health indicators on the side?

3) Is it just me, or does that helicopter have a vertical blade in it?

Also, I don't know what you guys think, but i think HL2 looks downright awesome.... My email is down as of now, so if anyone could email gabe or someone thatd be great.....It 3:30 EST on 4/29 in Pennsylvania, and i have still haven't gotten my US PCG. I hope its not as dissapointing as everyone says....

good points, although im not sure about that heli...
 
the x-hair could have been tweaked for 1000's of reasons... glitches, accuracy, temp until a new one is finished...

bigger ammo clip = yay more holes in combines :cheese: ....... oh and did anyone notice those blueish glowing eyes on certain combine dudes...creepy/cool! :D
 
some screens in the pc zone article have the crosshair we saw at E3 and some have this more basic one, this leads me to believe these screenshots are all from different times, there not just one batch.

And about the helicopter, there does seem to be a second rotor underneath where the pilot usually sits, i think its cool lookin :)

Will the alien gunship still be in the game, considering the combine have other means of travelling now
 
why cant they have more than one? anyway the chopper may be piloted by a human, where as the gunship may be remote or even organicly living like the strider.

Gunship != transport

Anyway, PC Zone had new screens of the gunship being in the game
 
The crosshair might be an option.
In games like painkiller (fun oldschool /twitch game imo) and RtCW and many others, you can choose crosshair style and color

Similarly, it might be an option like the dynamic crosshair in counterstrike. Instead of being static vs changing to accuracy, it could be another option do display (rounds¤ammo) or (health¤armor)

anywho i think i've been verbose enough
 
about the ammo capacity....i think that they made it 40 rounds witch is the real amount that the MP7 can hold..i think thats a good thing
 
That one is most likely the number of clips you have left. I hope the spice up those crosshairs a bit, or at least make then darker. I can barely see them in any of those pics.
 
Wouldn't it show how many grenades you have in the ammo count area when you actually switch to them..


Or are you, Rossell, getting that from the beta?
 
Reading this thread makes me think one thing: "we need this game. NOW."
 
If they mean the beta, the nades are meant for the OICW, as seen in the first teaser trailer released just before E3 2003, just shows how screwed up that build was. -_-
 
the new screen shots are nice and all, but honestly, i think the game looks like crap now graphicly. the original screens looked more impressive then this. hopefully they where just running it with most options off and at low res.

choper:strange futuristical amorpheus machine,or maybe a "light" combat flying machine
guy in the banner or video:whos that? were I can get information of he?

The shots definitely look alot nicer then the scans we've seen, or for that matter; any previous screenies.
 
can an MP7 be outfitted with an M203 or other grenade launcher? I always thought it was too small for that, though it would make sense. After all the mp5 had a grenade launcher.

Anyway found something else that might be interesting

It would appear that the combine grunt is following a trail of Xen blood.if so that would be cool as if they injure an Antlion Guard and it scambers(Or lumbers as its big)off they,or reinforcements if they have been killed can follow it.And Im guessing its safe to assume it works with Gordan aswell.

great observation, it would seem that way wouldnt it..
 
It could be he's just runnin n gunnin after an Ant-Lion. Would be pretty sweet if they could actually follow blood trails like that though =D
 
The railroad year is the one that really stands out to me. It just suddenly made City 17 look like a real city, and not just sporadic locations. The second I saw it I thought how cool yet almost impossible a decent looking GTA mod would be. All the scrrens look amazing, though, in my opinion.

In HL it always showed the grenade count, because you fired them with alt-fire.

And in regards to the 36 round clip, maybe its like in Deus Ex where you can get weapon upgrades, such as bigger clip.
 
I imagine clip size is the sort of gameplay-centered tweaks that they're making now.
 
People who think a game thats comming out in Summer 2004 has shit graphics from just looking at still screenshots need their head examined first of all... UT2004 (DirectX8 game) has worse graphics came out last month still a good game... Far Cry on par? a good game... Counter-strike has super graphics innit? thats why its played so much... seriously if your bugged by the graphics dont buy the FUC*ING game then... Why do people want to play a game that feels plastic is beyond me instead of going towards realism like Half-Life 2 and Stalker you crave for the plastically perfect world graphics like of Far Cry, they may look good but completely unreal.

If you actually look in one of the indoor screens with 3 combine troops youll see shaders being used on some sort of plasticky material on the walls which looks very nice.

Agree, HL2 look so far the best and most beautiful game i´ve seen and it doesn´t use bumpmapped superfaces in every damn object like FarCry or Doom3, I must admit that i have a crush on High Polygons Count games.
 
Actually, I think HL2 really does do that. It just doesn't go over the top with them. It uses it to make stuff look realistic, not just to make it look cool.

I totally agree with Killerlagger, but graphics can only enhance what you have, and i think they're the most "real" I've ever seen. You're right that Far Cry is way too perfect looking and I personally think that Doom 3 is way to stylized with shadows (which is cool). Valve wanted immersiveness and i recreation of the effect in HL1, and I think that by doing "real" looking graphics, they achieve just that.

Now someone make me a GTA mod while i learn how to map!

If anyone recalls, Half-Life had a reputation for looking more 'realistic' than other games.
It didn't use tons of coloured lighting (the amazing trend in those days, look at quake 2 and unreal) and it had realistic locations.

Halflife2 now seems to be doing the same thing (woohoo).
Who wants bump maps on everything? Who wants a crazy special effect on every goddamn model?

Not me... i'd rather it look good and real.

And anyway, anyone who thinks that halflife 2 has somehow downgraded is simply retarded.
I can't believe people actually think that it has somehow become worse because of these new shots - look at the dx 9 shader examples, the videos, the older screens... dear god, WAKE UP!
