My internet intermittently drops off randomly everyday, to fix this I have to unplug my router (BEFSR41 v1 or 2) then plug it back in. I have tried many different settings on it that I think should work. Yet none seem to keep a constant internet connection. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not sure if its the internet or the router.. yet I think it's the router.

Which ISP do you have?? Aol seemed to have a lot of problems concerning routers.

Try this:

Right click my computer, click properties, hardware tab, device manager, open network adapers, right click your network card, and click properties. Click advanced, and select 100Base TX Full_Duplex (or at least not autosense).

I had a very similar problem a while back, and this along with firmware updates stopped it. The guy that told me to do this also told me that with autosense, the speed is intermitently being 'sensed' and this can interrupt the connection.

it's definitely the router. i had this same exact issue. supposedly the newer firmware versions fix the problem but they don't. my linksys never stopped dropping the connection. the firmware helped but didn't stop it completely. my advice is to buy a non-linksys router :\

luckily i was able to sell my router to one of my non-gamer roomates for almost full price. i bought a d-link and i'm extremely happy with it. try the firmware though...it might help you...i could've had some other problem with my linksys on top of the one that gets fixed by the firmware update.

Your ISP is set up to reconfigure the connection every day as the lease expires and is renewed, although your router isn't... in the router config, there should be an 'automatic settings' tickbox which you should tick

wow I have been having the same problem with my router like every 10 minutes my internet would just shut off then come back on. I took my router out and problem persissted. I called up Cablevision/optimum/w/e they said they could check the signal stength in my cable modem and it was weak so it had something to do with the wiring. cablevision came over fixed some wires and works great

i think it's happening more than one time a day....and he said randomly...not regularly. if it was a leasing issue, it would happen at regular intervals.

kidrock made a good point though...it could be signal strength...though the BEFSR41's have that exact problem, which is why i jumped on it right away. you should take your router off and see if your connection drops...if it doesn't, then your router is definitely the problem.

if it still drops, it's probably a signal strength problem or one of the cable company's routers that's to blame.

Okay, I will try that, I actually couldn't find this thread so sorry for taking so long.

What other router would you suggest DLINK?

:dozey: I too, have the same problem. Being the dork that I am, I never installed the router software, with sorry luck... i've also lost the box for the router.

I used to have this problem all the time. Then the router started screwing up my IP address and not being able to connect because it couldn't find a gateway and the IP was wrong. So I got a Linksys. They're awesome, I've never had to unplug it.

I'm glad I'm not in the same boat as you guys... I have the 4-port Linksys Broadband Router and it has yet to give me a single problem in 2+ years

Before you go out and buy a new router, call your cable company. Your Linksys should be fine.... they're owned by Cisco (in case you didn't know), who is the industry standard for network infrastructure equipment. Well.... they're good enough for the US Armed Forces at least ;)

Anyways, its most likely a problem either with your cable company or you configuration (or both!)

EDIT: Next time this happens, take a look at your cable modem! I've been having problems similar to yours lately as well. I have Earthlink Broadband cable through TimeWarner, and the lights on my cable modem keep going out. The thing will go through the whole "reboot" sequence as if it had been shut off, and then will come up, and then after about 90 seconds or so will reset again. I've checked the power and everything... Time Warner is coming out in a couple days to check everything out.

Can someone help me with my configuration then. I think I have it set right.

Bosox, what kind of router was it?

You know how I was having a similar (albeit less severe) problem, Z|insane? Well, ever since I've had a new machine... no problems at all... while the other one continues to lose its connection randomly. I'm thinking it had something to do with the network card (rather than the actual router) then...

I really don't think it is my network card, as both the machines hooked up to it are having the problem at the exact same time.

Welcome to the world of Linksys. Numero uno reason I threw mine away, what you are talking about is SYN Flooding or also known as Denial Of Service attacks. Linksys really sucks when it comes down to DOS attacks, my best recommendation is to go completely DHCP, and get rid of those static addresses. For some completely stupid reason when you do an IPCONFIG /release and then do an IPCONFIG /renew it resets that DOS. Thus giving you internet again.

When you get the time one day, go treat yourself to a new router, one that can take DOS attacks like a real router.
