Invalid User Id Ticket ?!?

after updating steam i can no longer play online. every time i try to join a server it starts to load then says invalid user id ticket. any clues as to why?

Me too. I glanced at the steam forums and it looks like almost everyone has this problem.;(

I have this problem too...
But hopefully it's temporary, and vALVE is going to fix this.

easy, you need to logout and login, voila, all works fine

I've tried logging out, and back in, but the problem is still there.;(
I've tried rebooting my computer, restarting Steam (repeatedly), but nothing I do seems to help.
LOL, it looks like Valve will need to create an update to fix their update.

lol well said, meh, from what ive seen of steam (i just got it yesterday), its understandable that there are so many problems, and i also dont mind them.....that much lol anyways, im gonna stick it out, i was playing fine until this morning (i downloaded the patch last night about 15 hours ago and have been playing until the last 7 hours. So i dunno, jsut hope Valve fixes this prob.

I finally figured out how to get past the Invalid UserID Ticket problem. At the login menu, there is a tick box that says "remember my password."

DON'T TICK THE BOX.

For some reason this creates problems in Steam like the UserID Ticket. Leave the box clear and you should never get this problem (unless someone else is using your CD-Key).

P.S. I really didn't figure this out. Some guy over at the Steam forums did. Can't take all the credit. Anyway just thought I would pass this info to you guys how are having this problem.

The problem is simply shutting down the program doesn't log you out, even after a reboot (you'd think it would work but it doesn't) so you need to actually select logout, close steam and restart.. Presto, things should be working.
