Ipod and Itunes Question

The computer with my itunes on was reformatted - deleting everything on it.
I have the itunes disc but if i install it again, it will have no music on it.
Does this mean that when I plug in my ipod, all the music on my ipod will disappear?
If it does not, then I can just add new music onto itunes, and update that onto my ipod, I dont care that the music on my hard drive was deleted.

No, your music won't disappear. If you want your music that's on your iPod, just hook it up to the computer and click-and-drag all your songs into iTunes... I'm assuming. I don't have an iPod, but if I wanted music from my Creative Zen Micro, I'd do it that way.

To tell you the truth I don't know the answer, however if you are worried then you could try plugging in your ipod before installing itunes and then manually moving all the music files from your ipod to your computer as if it were a regular portable mass storage device.

I see, although manually moving all my music may take for ever. I shall try that though; if it takes too long I will just have to risk it. But if it does disappear than that is a pretty annoying fault.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but you cannot move music files from an Ipod to your computer. It's an anti-piracy measure. There was a program recently that allowed you to complete the task, but with the newest Itunes update, it's obsolete. All you can do is hope for another program to come out that works with the current version of Itunes.

if you move files it asks if you want to do something when you update next, cant remember exactly what it says, but it wipes your entire Ipod...such a **it system really. they FORCE you to keep music on your HD..crapness

No they don't. Just turn off auto-sync

Listen, I dont care about the music I have lost from my hard drive. So long as the old music remains on my ipod that is fine, I dont care if i cant transfer it;
all i want to know is whether plugging in my ipod into an empty itunes, will wipe out all music on my ipod.

If you look in the iPod instruction booklet, you'd see that it says you can turn off auto-update. If you turn off the auto-update, the iPod won't update until you tell it to

so i have a pc and recently (finally) got an ipod. i'm still a little unclear on how to use it. a friend told me that something called podmax (or ipodmax) or something was usefuil for transferring stuff from your ipod to your computer. does anyone know about it or know how it works. or wherei might find it?

Just use iTunes, it's the easiest way to do it

Ok, it did not work.
I plugged in my ipod to an empty itunes, and everything disappeared.
However I think it can be avoided (I did not realise this till too late).
When you plug in the ipod, and turn on itunes, it will ask you if you want to automatically configure your new ipod; this basically means deleting any songs that are not loaded onto itunes.
Dont configure it, but choose to do it manually. That way i think you wont have to have ur music deleted.
