This keeps getting stranger and stranger...

A group of armed, masked Iraqi men threatened Tuesday to kill Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi if he did not immediately leave the country, accusing him of murdering innocent Iraqis and defiling the Muslim religion.

The threats revealed the deep anger many Iraqis, including insurgent groups, feel toward foreign fighters, whom many consider as illegitimate a presence here as the 160,000 U.S. and other coalition troops.

In a videotape sent to the al-Arabiya television station, a group calling itself the "Salvation Movement," questioned how al-Zarqawi could use Islam to justify the killing of innocent civilians, the targeting of government officials and the kidnapping and beheading of foreigners.

"He must leave Iraq immediately, he and his followers and everyone who gives shelter to him and his criminal actions," said a man on the video.

The video marked the first time that an Iraqi group made such a public threat against al-Zarqawi.

In the video, three men, their faces covered with Arab headscarves, were flanked by rocket propelled grenades and an Iraqi flag. The man speaking had a clear Iraqi accent.

"We swear to Allah that we have started preparing ... to capture him and his allies or kill them and present them as gift to our people." the man said. "This is the last warning. If you don't stop, we will do to you what the coalition forces have failed to do."

a source please?

sounds like a wind up though. probably coalition agents and/or iraqi's in the pay of coalition forces. i wouldn't put it past them to do something crafty like that. but then again it could be genuine. maybe they just completely hate outsiders eh?

It's important to remember that these guys are probably Iraqi nationalists who hate the Coalition as much as they hate the foreign fighters - they might even have fought against the Coalition during the occupation. But, at the very least, they seem intent on following "true" Islam rather the the perversion exhibited by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi

could be former baath members trying to position themselves for power in the future. it's too hard to say at this point. an interesting development though.

thanks for the update,, odd indeed. the media is only scratching the surface I believe, the plot is way deeper. it would be nice to think we know wtf is going on, but all you can do is speculate really, unless its obvious...? but that depends on your own views i guess. ..

but yeh lil timmy, that sounds most likely. in this capitalist world

the new PM of Iraq Iyad Allawi has been on the CIA payroll for decades so no it wouldnt surprise me. I think it's probably just a group of Iraqi nationalists; too small to make any real difference.

apparently they are shia. if that's true, then they probably aren't former baath.. but who knows. i imagine they'll have as much chance of getting zarqawi as the coalition. wonder if the iraqi police forces will try to work with them since they are now nominally free of coalition control.

Minority groups have a way of making their voice heard.

There is one thing that would lead me to believe that the CIA is NOT behind this group: the group's name - the name is JUST TOO SIMPLE AND CLEAR to be something the CIA cooked up.

Trust me, the CIA would have spent at least $2 million trying to figure out what name to give the group and come up with something like:

Iraqi People's National Liberation Jihad Against The Foreign Apostates.

Simplicity has never been the CIA's hallmark :)

Oh crap, why didn't I think of that...but wait, if they know that I know that they....uhhh...nevermind :)

:x this is where almost everyone starts to question wtf, Bush and Blair and Co are doing.. :hmph:

vive la revolution :P :naughty:

I don't think that Bush, Blair, and Company have any control over this particular situation - I honestly believe this his home grown Iraqi nationalism against foreign invaders (both Muslim and non-Muslim).

Did you notice these guys have green/white scarfs, while the Zarqawi-guys have red/white? Struck me as relevant, since the al-Mehdi-army has green head-bands.

Personally I don't believe in the al-Qaeda / Saddam connection. I do believe al-Qaeda oriented groups are active in Iraq. After Afghanistan they are getting a new playing ground. Bush cs. are actually providing a new front in the war on terrorism. Kinda stupid coz it makes it even more difficult. This is getting more and more out of hand.

we're all going to DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111111111one someday....

Why does this event remind me of this scene?

Brian: Are you the...Judean Peoples' front?

Reg: Judean Peoples' Front!?!?! We're the Peoples' Front of Judea.

Francias: Wankers.

Reg: Listen. The only people we hate more than the Romans... are the f**king Judean Peoples' Front.

^^^ You are ABSOLUTELY right!

I remember PJ O'Rourke in his book "Give War A Chance" writing about his visit to Lebanon and the various militia groups fighting each other:

- Islamic Socialist Revolutionary Party
- Socialist Islamic Revolutionary Party
- Party of the Islamic Socialist Revolution

You get the picture! Welcome to the Middle East :)
