I use mIRC, but just wondered what everyone else uses, and if there's any others that are better than mIRC?

Depends on what network, for gamesnet/any other network it's just mIRC, for quakenet I use mIRC with NNScript.

with the syntax script from their downloads page. the guy stopped developing it, but whatever...i like it.

i use xircon for chatting just because i like how it looks with syntax. if i'm downloading stuff, i use mIRC because it has nice download windows with progress bars n'stuff. but if i never did any file transfers, i'd never use anything else.
