Iron and Wine

Some time ago, I slept over at my good friend's house, and (as always) we listened to his excellent collection of music. Prince, The Arcade Fire, Opeth, Ben Folds, and just about everything else (like me, he refuses to bind himself to one genre: rather, he listens to the best bands of every one). Well anyway, I'd heard about Iron and Wine from friends and the like, and got him to play me some. This was about a month ago, and I still haven't recovered. Iron and Wine has some of the most soothing, beautiful, touching, fully awesome music I've ever heard. This music defines what I want my life to be like: simple, touching, complete, and happy. Every time I listen to Sodom, South Georgia, Jezebel or Naked as we Came, I think that this what I'd like to make love to my girlfriend to, or nurture a child to, or something equally sappy. Now, obviously none of you know me well, but I'm a true cynic, and these thoughts surprise and amaze me more than anything else. I don't think everybody will like this music. In fact, I'm sure of it. But chances are, a few of the people who read this will feel the same way. So I urge you, check them out. It sure changed the way I feel about... everything.

Hell yeah, awesome shit- his first album: The Creek Drank the Cradle- is by far the best- it's probably in my top 5 albums of all time. The album you're talking about : Endless Numbered Days- is good too tho.

Yes, I first heard Iron and Wine on the Garden State soundtrack (by the way that entire soundtrack RULES!), and he is pretty awesome.

I just can't get into him. I find his stuff way too boring, I can think of way more interesting acoustic artists to listen to

I dunno. His stuff turns me into a hapless, naive romantic (hell, my current female companion isn't complaining, though). To me, it's like pure happiness in aural form.

Yeah, Iron and Wine is a great band. I wasn't too into them but then I heard his first CD and just got hooked.
Another band you might like is Belle and Sebastian.

Upwards Over the Mountain is imo one of the best. Track 6 on C.D.T.C

Yes, iron and wine is an excellent guy. His stuff rocks, but not in a rocking way. You pretty much described it right man.

The whole "If Your Feeling Sinister" album. I wouldn't bother too much with "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" though.

Just for the record, I found another Iron and Wine song that I think I like even more. "The Trapeze Swinger" is like 9 minutes long, but holds me captive the entire way through. It's got this tribal beat that makes it feel all natural and good, and the lyrics are amazing as always.

I love these guys. I found out about them from a friend and have been obsessed ever since. Thanks to them I now love folk music.

I only heard one Iron & Wine song that I downloaded off his website, but it was pretty nice. You might like Joe Purdy too; his music seems to be pretty similar. It's very simple, nice and easy to listen to, and has a folk feel to it.
I'll also mention Explosions in the Sky (instrumental rock, not folk music), not just because they're awesome, but in a bunch of interviews they've done, they mention how much they like Iron & Wine, which is actually the first place I heard about Iron & Wine.

If your into Post-Rock (or instrumental rock) you should look into A Silver Mt. Zion and Mogwai. Great bands.

Also, if you haven't seen the live music archive before, it looks like almost all the post-rock groups are allowing people to put up recordings of their concerts for free.

My favourite Godspeed songs are "Sleep," off the album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven, and "East Hastings," off F# A# (Infinity)

you should check out the 'such great heights' original by "the postal service". its a collaboration between the ex-emo-band-member jimmy tamborello and death cab for cutie's singer benjamin gibbard. really awesome, but i dont know if you like the electric-melodic sound of it if youre into iron and wine that much.

seriously - i think the latest album is far away from the level 'dead cities...' was playing on. teen angst is great (the luciano remix! woah!) but the rest did not convince me. maybe im currently just not in the right mood for m83..

DOn't get me wrong, I LOVE Dead Cities... and their self titled, but I think I enjoy Dawn just a bit more.
"Don't Save Us From The Flames" is probably one of my favourite songs of the year
