Today I recieved an email from the Iron Grip team - and, to their credit, it was exciting enough to rouse me from my expensive solid diamond jacuzziand drive me to waddle my vast, lazy bulk over to the computer to make a newspost.[br]Two pieces of art detail a declaration of war, and the assault of what appears to be Minas Tirith (I kid, IG guys). The screenshots showl two weapons: the rough and ready, cheap and cheerful Rahmos Armories PE3 “Persian” 9mm Light Pistol, and the 40RGE “Forge” 40mm Infantry Antitank Gun - the primary weapon of the rebel forces, easy to build with household materials. Its designer is currently unknown, but carries a severe price on his head; personally, I hope he is sentenced to death for not including a chestnut stock. Honestly![br]

Can we stop posting weapon renders and concept art, post something that's concrete and ingame.

I like weapon renders and concept art- they give you a close up look at all the hard work that the development team have put into the mod, wheras screenshots and videos just look like slightly altered versions of HL2 screens.

Oh and the last image =

But with rich people.

Well, Iron Grip is running - we've seen screenshots and so on, haven't we?

I just figured: good mod + new media = post the news.

And yes, it does bear more than a passing resemblance to famous paintings of Lenin. :D

I wish the Soviet Union had actually built this:

:(

Yeah, but only if it opened up to reveal a missile.

Lenin would be the missile.

America: "OH SHIT A GIANT STATUE OF LENIN IS FLYING AT U---"

No because they have nothing else to post. If they dint post this kind of "news" this website would be very "quiet".

that's because the team didn't work on it enough. Instead they did renders and concept art.

they make nice stuff, although i dont really like the overall style. :|
and since when and why is suicide42 called Sui?!

I really don't understand one thing, and I've seen this in several games --

The AT weapon seems all rusty by the looks of the pictures. A rusty weapon is a useless weapon. A weapon doesn't get rusty, as the person serving the weapon is maintaning it 24/7.

it makes me go ???

Other than that. I have no idea... cheers

The 40RGE is a recoilless gun built with cheap and rough materials found anywhere a Resistance engineer can get to. Looks like this one was made with some lengths of old iron piping which would explain the rapid exterior blemishing and rusting. The chamber is thick-walled and the pressure is vented in two directions - out the front propelling the shell, and out the back balancing the recoil forces - so the sideways pressure on the chamber isn't too severe. Aside from the threads on the endcap, the exterior rust on the weapon can't harm it, and since Resistance partisans are almost always on the move these days due to the Rahmos hunts, people just don't have the time to polish their guns like they used to. Hope that makes sense!

If you ask me, those models look like they're from a Half-Life mod :/

I mean, it's not like I could do any better... I'm just sayin'.

Hmm, the skins may be a bit too cloudy (I think they're ok) but some of the metal edges defiantly need to be toned down. They're too strong (especially the back plate on the pistol).

It does, and it seems like a nifty little weapon; just an iron pipe and some other materials.

The concept art is nice (as we are used to from these guys), but we've been seeing concept art from these guys for a very long time now, time to move on.

Those models look pretty weak too me. The models looks extreemly low poly and the skins don't look too great either.

It almost seems as if their work is regressing... I've gone through all the Iron Grip news posts and most of the earlier news posts have a lot more interesting and usefull images.

The models no doubt look low poly since they are the w_models not the v_models. The w_models are the world models eg the models every player can see and are server side models, thus they require to be low poly for performance reasons. v_models on the other hand are the client side ones you see in the first person view and those will no doubt be much more high poly then these renders.

Excellent work guys keep it up.

It doesn't say that they're worldmodels in the release. Plus, if you're releasing renders, why would you show the worldmodels instead of the viewmodels?

I think that's preeeeetty important to specify. I mean, I'll play a mod regardless of the graphics, but even so, it's a bit of a turn off to see something like that. Now it makes more sense.

I don't think it's a case of "not working on it enough", I think it's a case of being a frikkin' mod team. Mod teams can't produce wholly original, self supportive games unless they're full of small earthbound deities like Pi.

You have to bear in mind that I can compile maps in my head.

:)

For the record, I also like Iron Grip.
