Iron Sights?

I can't find a search function here so I don't know if this has already been asked or not... does anyone know if HL2 will have an option to have Iron Sights?

No. You should check out S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you want iron sights and real ballistics.
 
Iron sights have not been shown in any screenshots or videos to date. Unless VALVe is trying to suprise us (which would be absolutely lovely) there will not be iron sights in the game. Ofcourse, I (for some strange reason) do not work at VALVe, so I might be wrong, but I doubt it.

I sure hope not, I really dislike iron sights (well at least in mp). They slow the gameplay down and make people camp.
 
Iron sights don't really match up with the feel of the HL universe anyway, IMHO...

I already did and I even have a pre-order in ebgames.com for that game but I was just curious about HL2...

I would like it if the player held the sniper rifles up in the center of the view and it used a shader on the scope's glass to zoom while blurring everything outside the scope of the scope (yes, that's the way I meant to write it). All of the other guns should stay the same.

I concur, more of WWII/AA game feature.

Anyways, I still don't exactly understand what Iron Sights are, I thought I knew until people said it changes gameplay...
 
You know those little bits of metal you get on top of gun barrels so you can line them up and see where it is aiming? They used to be made of iron. Hence the name.

HL2 wount have ironsights i guess. Wouldent have anything against it, but only if they were as good made as in CoD.
HL2 will have that zoom thingy on the HEV, discussed a few weeks ago(try search:p)
 
most ppl dont even use iron sights now :p I dont see neo in the matrix using iron sights on his pistols :D
 
I love IS, but I don't think they fit into HL2 well. No point using IS when you've got crosshairs built into the HUD. IS are more for tactical games like AA and HI (HI rocks).
 
Iron Sights are just the sights on a gun so you can aim effectively without a scope. Every weapon in real life has them, but now-a-days there are many modifications for guns like red laser sights and such.

Anyway, in real life you'd never run around with your gun at your hip firing at people since you don't exactly have a crosshair in real life, so you'd lift you gun to your shoulder, close one eye (different for lefties and righties), and shoot accurately. But I wouldn't like to see them in normal HL2, but I'd love to see them in CS, DoD, and every other tactical game.
 
ahhh, i understand now. but thats still kinda lame, normal sights sound much more practical
 
Ehh, CoD has disappointed me. Go install Heat of Battle, the best mod for CoD, and then play. That's how CoD MP should have been. Also, if you want to know what a red laser sight looks like, check out the screenshots of the MP7, or whatever it is, for HL2. That red sight is basically a red laser dot sight used by Special Forces, and probably S.W.A.T.
 
i've always preferred the iron site idea but i think it'd be cool if they just made it so that u could use it both ways effectively like in CoD. Somebody will mod it in i'm sure

It makes perfect sense. He can't see anyone playing HL with IS because it just wouldn't play the same as HL should.
 
well if they gave u the option to have it on or not, they could leave it up to the player to decide whether or not thats how it should be played
 
i remember in the E32003 video "barricade", doesnt he raise the sights of the MP7-PDW at some point?

i remember seeing the red dot sight raised as some point, but i cant be arsed to download it at the moment...
