sept 30 comes and goes, with only a brief announcement on amessage board about a delay...

now counter-strike: condition zero, was supposed to be on shelves today...and .....it isnt.

so looking at valves history, they have THEMSELVES (not including addons they licensed out, or mods they bought) has made ONE GAME, which itself was a year late...then has 2 vaporware projects in development (half life 2 and team fortress 2....going by their official releases, none of that crap form the leaked beta), and a game that was supposed to be out NOW that....just isnt...no explanation, nothing. its just not there. one second the game was done, the next POOF its not shipped.

valve, what the **** happened? you were on top of the world a few months ago, now you're the butt end of everyone's jokes. please, dont become the next 3drealms.

These things happen, their only the butt of some jokes now because unlike many developers, they chose to let their fans know what was in the works. It backfired in a big way, I don't blame them for keeping quiet now, look what being open got them :(

I dunno about you guys, but HL2 came out in my city on the 30th of September, and CZ came out today.

I've played through and beaten HL2, the end battle with the HUGE biozeminade and his spray paint was tough.. overall, I'd say the game is a 9.5/10, good work VALVe

Eh the storyline was a little overdone, it was like a cross between final fantasy, fallout, and dune 2. It had a lot of promise, a lot of mini-games (most noteably the alex dating sim and the mech fighting) but it just seemed unpolished overall.
8.0/10 for me.

Unpolished!? Are you insane? It was bleeding with detail! Although the minigames WERE overdone (especially the whack-a-headcrab), it was made up for by the overall variety of the world (remember the part where you ended up in the mall of america? You can't tell me that wasn't cool..)

Question:

HL2.Net: You've mentioned on a number of occasions that Gordon has a set mass within the game world. What effects will this have on gameplay - say, if you jumped on a headcrab, would it squish?

Gabe Newell: Off-hand I don't remember how much of a force it takes to significantly damage a headcrab, but the point is that Gordon is no different than any other object with the same mass (well, and shape). If you step on a teeter-totter, it's going to teeter. If you weight too much for something to hold, it will break.

Well.....If our good friend Gordon has his own weight properties etc... If a grenade were to go off at his feet, would you see yourself flying through the air? Or get blown back and rumble tumble on the floor?

DISCUSS!

oh yea I already played it but im just asking this question for the people...who...havn't...played...it =(

Yeah, I thought the recruit a combine was very original but was kinda boring in my books

when's hlaflife2.net gonna have a chatroom? I want a chatroom!

1) that would be cool if that happened. I guess in theory it should/does

2) don't talk about the stolen files, thanks :)

3) there's no need to multipost like that, you can edit your posts upto 15 minutes after they were originally made, many short posts like that in a row is often frowned upon.

4) it has a chatroom, check the first page of this site, top right corner for details.

I must've missed something, who was talking about stolen files?

thanks Fenric and by the way....lol...not to make any fun but we were talking about the release of HL2 back in September and how we all bought the game, we didn't steal it. =) Please don't ban me!

go get the maxpayne2 demo...that happens when you play on dead man walking all the time. when you get blown up you see max go flying...
i think im gonna buy it.

yeah but not telling anyone, even on the DAY IT WAS SUPOSED TO bE OUT, that the game is delayed....thats a bit extreme dont you think?

i wasnt even going to buy the damn game, i just think its pretty ****ed up for valve to disappoint all the guys who went to bestbuy or whatnot today and didnt see their game there.

I wish they would become the next 3d Realms. At least that way, they wouldn't continue to get peoples hopes up by promising a release date and then not come through.

3d Realms is very smart by taking the, "When It's Done" approach.

If I remember it right, 3d Realms had a hand in the Max Payne 2 game that a lot of people were waiting for.

And guess what? Max Payne 2 actually came out on time when it was scheduled to.

Not too bad as far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps if the same people who made Max Payne would make Half-Life 2, we would have the game by now. :)

Fenric1138, I have a problem...I got to the quake.org forums but I can't get into a chat and i can find a link to register...what do i do?

connect your IRC client to irc.quakenet.org and then type /j #halflife2

I'd recommend www.mirc.com if your on the PC, but there's tons out there for almost every single net capable machine and OS out there, I think even phones :)

Thats right, they chose to let their fans know what was coming and when, and then they didnt pull through. This is not our fault, this is Valves fault. I forgave them for the HL2 delay, these things happen, but it's a little over the top when the release date comes and goes and we hear NOTHING from Valve whatsoever.

I have lost all respect for Valve now. I'm not going to lie to you, I will still buy HL2, and play it, and probably love it, but Valve as a company can kiss my big white ass.

Anyone here live in New Zealand?

Cause now I think of it, there are alot of similarities between Gabe Newell and John Mitchell (NZ All Blacks coach, and complete fuckup).

Like Mitchell, Gabe promised us he would pull through, and like Mitchell he failed miserably. Gabe refuses to release any sort of decent statement to the public or press, also like Mitchell. He is arrogant, conceited and like Mitchell, had absolutely amazing performances early on, but let us all down when it really mattered.

Man I hope someone here lives in New Zealand or I'm gonna look like a bit of a dick... :p

Cool I'm a Zombie now.

Congrats on the Zombie status.

Hmm... I live in Modesto, California. Not New Zealand. Sorry, heh.

my feelings exactly.

the only possible excuse i could think of is that everyone in the valve office got eaten by headcrabs, and noone found out yet.

...or gabe had a cardiac arrest..

either one.

but seriously..how could they just ignore a release date...with no word at all?

at least guys like moleyneaux tell us a date, and even if its delayed, they TELL US IF ITS DELAYED less than a week before the ship date. a few months ago i was gonna only buy half life 2 for the holidays...now the money is going to other games to divert me (rainbow six 3 on xbox and max payne 2 for pc..and maybe unreal 2004)

"is anyone else perplexed?"

Errrr... yeah. Me. Every day of my existence.

Basically my ground state of being.

Well I personally hate "When It's Done" more than anything. They at least need a goal and let the fans know what they're aiming for. It's when they keep pushing that date up until just before the game releases (HL2) that is really sucky. Or even worse, the CZ situation where the game simply doesn't show up. "When It's Done" just gives them an excuse to take forever.

like wow..
too bad the numbers aren't 9 1 1 1 1

easy to remember :p

Really, one would need only buy a single ticket.

well u do realize there could be more than 1 winner right? if someone else picks the winning numbers.. the moolah is shared i believe..

so buying alot of tickets would be a smart thing.. more moolah :cheese:

now for something on topic:

i think Valve and we all would have been better off if Valve had kept the game hush-hush until they were ready (or thereabouts) to announce the game going gold..

pple would be so excited.. Valve wouldn't need a "hype machine" the gold announcement would enough to hype this game that really wouldn't need it.. but the main point is.. in the end pple would be pleasantly surprised and pple would hardly be whining..

I was TRYING to get Fenric to go and waste a whole lot of money on my false prediction.. ahem.. thanks for blowing my cover :x

lol, uhmm.. DF, d00d.. think about that for a second, if someone else gets the winning numbers, the money is split up between them.. therefore, buying 20 tickets with the same number and winning = same amount of money given to you

Didn't they TRY to do this (keyword: try)? The reason for the delay is still unknown and while VALVe CLAIMS it has nothing to do with the source theft, it sure seems probable that that's the reason..

Man i've been trying to download that demo for 2 days now, on a 56k. 1st time it finally finished and as i go to Getright to open up the file, it deletes the current file and tries to download the whole thing again........a whole 245 megs gone in 2 seconds..........I hate my 56k]

54% download on the MaxPayne2 Demo now though

The demo really was something, worth the wat.

On topic again -

I really don't mind if VALVe keep their mouths shut, the game is going to be excellent, giving them more time to rewrite some code because of the leak will give the rest of the dept to fix little bugs and maybe even add new things, VALVe are doing the right thing, so let them do it.

Hmmm would you at least mark u spoilers with warnings...

Come on NZers, there must be a few of you?! What do ya think of my ingenious comparison?

Valve have really got a lot of work to do in their customer relations department!

I'm of the opinion that you should be honest and upfront with your paying customers, who are the lifeblood of any company or business!

I dont think HL2 will be out any time within the next 6-8 months to be quite honest!

And what about all those customers who bought ATI video cards just to play the game?

TBH I think we will, seeing how Vivendi said the lastest they would ship HL2 would be April.
