Greetings,

does anyone know of a mod for HL2 that's going to introduce Sword Fighting? Like a Midevil or Samurai sort of mod? I think a mod set in the midevil era with Bows, Swords, Maces, War Axes, etc would be really cool (especially because the melee weapons are objects actually moving through the air and not just an attack that deals damage)

what about

What about a mod with cool sword combat thats *not* medieval.

Cyborg ninjas with katanas, axes, and of course laser cannons.

Well its alot less cheesy then it sounds, but the mod team did want something that had both cool weapons combat AND good melee combat. And you simply can't have cyberpunk without katanas.

I think the problem with most hand-to-hand combat is the inability to circle around your apponent while maintaining facing, and also the need for the mouse to control facing. Ideally you should be able to use the keyboard to help control facing, and use the mouse to direct where melee attacks occure. Now I'm not going to say we have a totally original hand-to-hand system that still fits in with the rest of the game, but I will say that with my background in fencing and tae kwon do theres no way I'm gonna let hand-to-hand be neglected.

I like the idea of creating a Ninja mod, I don't know how well you could do the sword fighting, I'm betting Half Life 2 is not the first to model hand to hand weapons as objects in space rather then attacks, in fact I'm pretty sure Jedi Knight 2's light sabres where real objects (you could position your model next to a wall and write with the light sabre without having to attack, just touching it was enough to trigger damage).

If someone was creating a Ninja mod I'd be keen to help, feudal Japan with Ninjas vs. Samurai. Neat tricks would be making the Ninja's more transperent the faster they ran (Ninja's where masters of stealth ;) ) or even better, have them take on that water effect that was in the tech demo. (The three objects floating in space, one was the stained glass, one a brick wall and the other a block of water).

Re: what about

I think there are some mods like this... Cant remember which though.

Do You know how maps in HL2 mods will be looks like?
I am sure that they'll looks better than this...(and this is already great)..

Point being?

(and yes it will look better in HL2 if you try to recreate Morrowind. Cause HL2 does occlusion culling and LODing, not to mention the fact its probably a 10x better engine)

HEH, yea im making a sword mod :) no guns and i have big plans for those physics, im not public yet though like Majestic rightly said, pretty soon though i'll let you all see what we got.
Brief outline of my idea is to make a sword mod over different time periods, i didnt want a realistic sword mod i sorta wanted more, so expect to be able to dodge the blade and string together combos which this fighting system i invented, and like i said i have plans for those physics, i want to get those trenchcoats and long robes animated using the physics as well as be able to cut bits of them off, which im hoping is possable because that will really make the mod better, anyways enough rambling, if you really want to see the site and forums (rather buggy but slowly getting better) visit me at http://Versus.moddb.com no media yet because im keeping it secret ;)

if you all are familiar with warhammer 40k then you know that like half of the fighting is in close combat using swords, axes, hammers, claws, and giant fists in a futuristic setting. Look for all of that in my mod.... See the sig :bonce:

Anyone remember Die by the Sword? Was a pretty fun game where you moved your dude with the KB and your sword with your mouse. Could be fun with modern engine tech.

That is the only game that have ever done it, yes :)
Sadly I didnt have a 3DFX, so couldnt play it...

There was this game called Silver that pulled of sword fighting quite well too. You controlled your sword-moves bij dragging the mouse, so drag left = swing left etc.
No idea if Die by the Sword was anything like that, but that was cool.

*chop chop*

I have only read reviews and interviews, but I beleive it was true sword wielding. That is, it wasnt an animation, you just moved it like you would in real life. But I cant remember really... Its quite old, and as I said, never got to play it...

Based around the movie Versus? that movie OWNS!!!

your idea for 1:1 combat sounds similar to something i'd like to see done, i was thinking of a mod for max payne a long time ago but never started due to no multiplayer, called 1:1 (one to one, also the logo for 1:1 sorta looked like the rear sights of a pistol or 2 ppl standing back to back) which would basically be duel to the death type stuff with moves, bullet/blade dodging, grapples, western style draw/gunslinger standoffs or starts, etc.. in a slightly small environments but with lots of object interaction/reaction, think of the fight scenes in matrix or matrix reloaded... maybe i will send u an email with some ideas :] although i dont think your having guns in your mod..?
