ummm... wtf... extending Daylight savings time? How does this solve anything energy related? I cannot see the correlation... someone please help me. And does anyone else think this is completely ridiculous and unnecessary? It cuts down on the fall/winter feeling, which I happen to enjoy.
That is ****ing ridiculous, and they are only ****ing with it by two weeks.

congress can control the sun!

HOLY SHIT!

ps big deal.

Yes our congress is filled with a bunch of dumbasses. How long it take you to figure that out?

i knew they were stupid, but this was just beyond me... i was like:eek:

WTF, what does this achieve?

"it makes everyone feel sunnier" :|

do they want april's showers to come earlier? or did all of them fall down the steps into the capital building?

LOL!? wtf is this!? I never thought I would find a proper use for the sentance "only in America" but this is just wow!

well you may have to say "only in america ...and canada" ..cuz we're looking to do the same thing

..if the US wants to conserve energy they should sign the kyoto accords and maybe get rid of all the behmouths you call suv's

You guys are retarded. Daylight savings time is the dumbest thing I've heard of for modern living, maybe in the farmer joe era of manual labor, but now still?

We don't do daylight savings time in Arizona, I never have in my entire life.

ummm... wow, you guys just like to tag right along, guess we're all in this mess together

and i agree with getting rid of SUVs, they're pointless... either get a van or a truck, not some stupid hybrid of the two that looks ugly as sin

but kyoto would be a huge mistake for us to sign, since it's hardly fair and would really do damage to the US economy

yes but in the long run it's worth it ...we're all living on the same planet

i would only accept it if it were to also put limits on "developing" countries, like China.. then it might be worth looking into

well, you can't make another country to follow you, you have to set example and maybe others will follow

so, anyway, how does this extension helps to save energy?

act locally think globally ...I support it despite the fact the US hasnt

looking at it from an economic standpoint its suicide, looking at it from an environmental standpoint then who's to say China won't just make up the pollution the US stops making?

on topic - i dunno how it helps save energy, that's why i was hoping someone could help explain it to me

it..uh...helps by making the..no thats not it...hmmm...lets see...i got nothing

I dont see how it's econonmic suicide ..sure it'll take adjusting but something is better than nothing

it would knock the US back quite a bit, and the only real way to adjust would be expanding nuclear power, which the gov't is looking into... i mean they're even looking at making the nuke plant near me bigger, which means if it melts down then i'd definitely be f*cked ....:|

but from watching car commercials you'd think oil was plentiful

well, they do keep finding more, but it certainly is a limited resource... though i won;t mind when we have to resort to bikes and our own two feet... or we have cars running on clean fuels

oh but you gave me so many opportunities ..I just couldnt let that one slip :E

true enough, guess i can only blame myself... but it's more fun to blame you:D

What we need to do is switch to a hydrogen economy.I like some SUV's...like the Porsche Cayenne. :D

They already have working hydrogen cars, I know someone who works for Daimler-Chrysler or whatever they are, and they are coming out with a lot of new cars, that don't use gas.

yes ...I'm well aware of that ..seems to be a growing trend 'round here :p

well, DST isn't "retarded". It actually saves oil consumption.

again, from Wikipedia

Theoretically, the amount of residential electricity needed in the evening hours is dependent both on when the sun sets and when people go to bed. Because people tend to observe the same bedtime year-round, by artificially moving sunset one hour later, the amount of energy used is theoretically reduced.

and,

United States Department of Transportation studies showed that DST reduces the country's electricity usage by one percent during each day DST is in effect.

and

When the U.S. went on extended DST in 1974 and 1975 in response to the 1973 energy crisis, Department of Transportation studies found that observing DST in March and April saved 10,000 barrels of oil a day, and prevented about 2,000 traffic injuries and 50 fatalities saving about U.S. $28 million in traffic costs.

so, therefore, DST is actually beneficial.

But they are only changing it by two weeks.

alright, cool, i just wanted to see a good reason why they would change it at all... seems more reasonable now, though it'll still make me sad...

Extending Daylight savings time will screw up their calender. Before you know it, it will be winter in summer.

did you even read my post? go back and re-read it. i swear sometimes....

People, people, no amount of energy conservation is going to stop us from walking blindfolded off the cliff straight ahead of us. Its only about a year or two away, and then gas prices will never go down again.

All you need to get rid of SUV's are slight curves in the road.

Though... for every one that rolls over, a new one is bought. So I see the problem.

Slight curves in the road would also get rid of American Sports cars and most American cars in general forcing American's too import the far superiour Japanese and European cars. :D

Oh, and anyone even thinking about mentioning a 'hydrogen economy' is teh sucks. Where do we get the hydrogen from? Splitting water. Where does the energy to split the water come from?

After reading this thread I'm not sure whether people know what Daylight savings time is.

Ya I read your post, and this is going to have a very small impact.
