In ep1, kliener said somewhere in his broadcasts that even though the combine are falling back at the present time and humans are taking back the planet, that will not last and that the combine will restore they're dominance over humanity again. But in ep2, you launch the rocket and (supposedly) cut of the combine from getting to earth ever again.
So theres something of a contridiction in the two episodes. So what do you think, will earth again be under combine control, or will Gordon live up to his name?

It's not a contradiction, I think you may be misunderstanding something here.

Kleiner's exact words are:

"We must make the most of the time we have, as it is by no means certain how much time we have secured ourselves before the Combine attempt to restore their dominion, as they certainly shall. [...] In short, the Combine are completely cut off. Combine forces currently stationed on Earth are now isolated units. Stranded. However, this is most likely a temporary state of affairs. As we once learned to our dismay, even the relatively tiny fracture at Black Mesa gave our enemies an opening which they were able to force ever wider, as they poured through in greater and greater numbers."

I think this sums it up pretty well; basically he's saying that the Combine are going to attempt to create another gateway (how at the time of EP1 we didn't know), and in EP2 it was clear how they were going to do that. The missile in EP2 prevented this.

I hope this clarifies this a bit.

Haha i see it know. They'll TRY to restore it, its just when kliener said "as the certainly shall," i thought he was sure that the combine will regain control of the earth, but i guess he means that they will definitely try to.
This really clears stuff up, thank.

The Borealis could be the new gateway that the Combine are trying to use. So the episode 2 ending doesn't say the combine are cut off (completely)...

That's what I'm figuring as well. The main threat (the superportal) is gone, so the Combine is going to try and find another way to create a portal. If whatever it is that's on the Borealis made the ship (& part of the drydock) disappear, I think it could be of good use to the Combine. In other words, Gordon's got some serious ass-kicking to do in EP3.

They were attempting to use the portal thingy at the ruins of the citadel as a gateway to get more forces on earth so they can restore control. However, by launching the rocket and closing it, we cut off their chance of getting in. Now, like the users above me say, i bet the borealis is their next gateway for earth...

D: I DON'T KNOW. For some reason the connection of Combine Wanting New Portal and Aperture Science Research Vessel didn't really click.

I think the Borealis is a has portal tech,But it wont be the Combine coming through it.

The portal is cut off and the humans that are now on earth are the only ones in THAT universe.Unless Gordon and Alyx don't stop the Combine in ep3 from opening another one using the portal technology on the Borealis.
