Is gordon mute?

^^^ BTW i didnt lie. its just to get you guys off my back

Sooo....Hate to say this but...

I TOLD YOU SO !!!

Oh just shut the **** up.

At the very end the player is put into freelook while Gordon's body still remains.
Just like the end of every damn 1.6 game created.

He dosen't speak because valve don't want anyone to find out hes actually English. Come on, anyone that stylishly cold is clearly English.

*Having thrown the cat amoungst the pigeons, link walks away smirking*

Gordon does talk you frickin' morons, you just don't hear him. What do you think pressing E to scientists signified in HL1? That was Gordon talking to them. As a design choice Valve do not give Gordon any dialogue. It's up to the player's imagination to insert their own dialogue for Gordon.

When your playing any half life game as gordon, what you say is what he saying. This is comming directly from valve, gordon IS u, so when you talk, thats him talking.

So in other words, when im gordon, hes ually a pissed off lunatic bitching about getting killed :E

because... they can read minds :dork:

I mean they invented portals and stuff, why wouldn't they be able to implant a "UNDERSTANDING GORDOR FREEMAN" chip in their brains ??? ;)
and pressing 'E' makes their gordon senses tingling

I'm pretty sure Gordon is mute because if you read Half-life Raising the bar I believe it said that when he was young that he had drank chemicals or bleach.

Gordon doesn't talk. This requires a suspension of disbelief that should be easy for any player to overcome. He's not a mute. He doesn't have a crippled voice box. He just doesn't speak, period.

You can make up dialogue for him if you want, and I have nothing against it. But I personally don't believe that he speaks without a voice or anything. None of the NPC dialogue, outside of a few awkward moments in the Gearbox titles, signify any kind of meaningful two-way communication. Not vocally, at least. It's just a narrative mechanic.

im pretty sure he can and has no matter how much I want to deny it. Oh and thanks for giving me my sig guys

Response to sig: "Hey douchebag, talk to me before I ram this crowbar up your ass."

^^ My very limited imagination of cursewords, sexual innuendos, and violent thoughts gave me this little bit right up there. Would Gordon say that? Let's hope not.

gordon maybe just mute when you see him in blue shift one Sc says hello to him and he didn't say hello back....

this seems natural to people who know him well to know he must be really brilliant but just mute just like point man in F.E.A.R he was a super soilder but didn't talk at all....

Barney must know something about him...they drink together...

I'm ecstatic to know that I'm not the only one to have pointed out that observation.

Not to mention, the player can do the same thing on Alyx during the episodes.

And give orders to resistance soldiers. And press E on the Vortigaunts.

The way i see it, valve is the true story teller of half life, so whatever they say, is the way it is... Gabe said in an interview between hl1 and hl2 that they made gordon a character who didnt talk because it immersed the player more and made it feel like you WERE that character, not just taking on the role of another person... if they gave gordon a voice, and you saw him in-game, it wouldn't feel like you were him so much.. So its not that gordon has a speech problem, or that he NEVER has anything to say (that sounds rediculous), its just to make you feel more like you are him...

Word.

No, there is a letter in the HL1 manual addressed to Gordon from Breen, he talks about a phone conversation they had...

No. No, no, no. Some people say there is no such thing as a dumb question.

But in you're case i'll make a ****ing great exception.

Have you played halflife?

No, there is a letter in the HL1 manual addressed to Gordon from Breen, he talks about a phone conversation they had...

LOL, but was that phone conversation in the game? they are just giving the character a little bit of history to make his role in the game feel realistic....

Don't you people know what the definition of "role-play" is? :|

Does it matter? I think not.

it would be more realstic if it came with a mic and I could speak into telling people what to do...

like that piachuhua game..whatever I hate pok'mon....

but everyone has they're verison....

I'd say Gordon is just anoher lonesome hermit. He probably spent to many lonely nights at some lab. ;)

The fact that in HL2 (or one of the episodes, excuse my inadequate memory), Alyx points out that Gordon is unusually taciturn, may give us a hint he has the abilitiy to talk after all. Then to let the protagonist be silent through games, is not that rare. It's just an effective way to increase and retain the mysteriousness 'bout the main character.

Gordon is just quiet,to himself could be a mystery that he might be shy and to himself.....
He's quoted to be a nerd.....

I wonder if he was picked on in school

*large boy holds down a young gordon while another boy pull down his pants*

Boy: NOW GET THE VASELINE AND SHOVE IT IN!!!

lil'Gordon: NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! :O

~so years later at black mesa Gordon drinking his beer with Barney in the black mesa bar~

Barney: My god,how did you cope with that?:(

Gordon: what do you think I'm doing now?

why_gordon_dosen__t_talk_by_makani.jpg

Makani is pretty good with the HL stuff.

I think Gordon doesn't speak out of disdain for the other characters in the half life universe for relying on him to sort things out constantly. :)

at least thats why i wouldn't speak if i were gordon :p
