I am having a hell of a time accessing any part of this site. Is this just heavy traffic? Or is someone or some others doing this?

Everyething was cool until earlier this evening. Now it takes almost 3 to 5 mintues for a page to load.

No attacks. We were just under a very heavy load after being linked to by just about every site on the globe including several news sites such as the BBC :) It eventually blew our database server up.

heh, this site is famous these days eventually all HL2 players wll come here :D

Hell yeah!

Munro? could you post how many hits you got this weekend?

We don't have stats. Although I have the feeling the number will drop off the side of the screen.

hehe i have a feeling your right :)

Well congrats on beeing the best HL2 site!

and i was there in the beginning!
/wears registered date with pride.

We peaked at over 5000 individuals browsing this website. The server couldn't handle it.

Rest assured that this kind of thing shouldn't happen again, we've moved the database over to a quad AMD 2400 with 4gb of ram.

must be costing a fortune

More traffic gets you more add money tho, so if things are costed right that should pay for the extra server costs, no?

Just a related suggestion: After the game is actually released, I have a sneaking suspicion that traffic will die down substantially... If that's the case, a lot of that extra computer power will be, dare I say it, wasted.

I wish more traffic got us more money. We don't actually see a penny from this site. We're grateful homelan are able to host us for free.

I don't see how it will die after the release - I'm certain it will sharply increase with all the huge things we have planned.

I lov this site

its my favorite site on the iNTERNET

followed by

planetquake3.net
joblo.com
gamershell.com

Doesnt the gamplay advertisement have anything to do with you or is that homelan? Also dont you have to pay vBullitin for the forums in the first place?

...

We advertise gameplay because they're giving a great deal to this community.

I pay a lot for vbulletin and other things yes and it's out of my own pocket.

Munro I have a ?.

You have a great site, but do you earn money from it or you made it up for the fans for free?

Do you not read the threads at all? I dont want to sound horrible but Munro actually stated that Halflife2.net is not funded and doesnt make any money, i quoted him on it.

...

Munro, I know you don't earn any money from this... but why not set up some paypal thingie? I'm sure many of us would donate a couple of pounds to the cause to buy you a few pints. Pay the fees etc...

We are all proud to be a member of this infinatly expanding community!

You're still going to have to upgrade that computer to be able to play hl2 above 30fps :E ;)
