Is it hyped too early again ??

I tell you its written in that Game-mag like this.
Do they lie ? There wasn't any crash ? What would be the sense ??

I'm failing to see your point. Do you believe them? Perhaps the game did crash, so what? They've jumped to the conclusion that the game isn't finished...it's not like Valve said "Oh, yeah...don't go in there guys, we haven't bothered to make that bit yet". It seems like this mag is just printing a load of crap just to stir things up.

they are using marketing strategies all up in your hizzy?

Who, Valve ?
Did anyone report about anything bad about HL2?
Could it have been steering from Valve to get so ?

Ok, perhaps there was a crash. provided that is true, we know for a fact that every different magazine editor had a different experience, and made different decisions when they played Half-Life 2 at Valve's offices. For evidence, just look at the different stories told by the different authors. Some people went indoors, some didn't. some used the giant crane magnet to knock a bridge down, some used it to move the buggy across the gap between two docks. others dropped huge crates on enemies. I would relax. Gamestar may have decided that they were going to write a negative article, but everyone else really liked the game.

Enough trolling zebra.

Why do you know its Gamestar ?? An UK guy ?
Your post is absolutly false. Gamestar never reviewed the leak. They just reported that Valve had been hacked.

Yes and included screenshots to prove they hadnt played it.

OH NO! GAMESTAR Said the preview alpha crashed!!!, Im gonna have to ignore PCGamer PCZone Gamespy IGN PCGameplay and my own eyes, and not buy the game! yeah screw valve :p

I would just like to highlight the above as sarcasm.

Gamespot was pretty negative (rather, unconvinced) about HL2 in their initial pre-E3 report

The point is (if this mag says the truth) that Valve didn't want the testers to go here or there. Once the tester did, the game crased.
That gives me to think about. Nothing more.

Would you vote 1000$ that we see it hitting the store this summer?
Well I guess you are about 85% sure. Like me and others. But not 100%...

OMGzzz!!! A g4me in teh Alpha st4ge crahseszzz !!!1!!SHETzzzz!!11!!!!11!!1 WTF n00b thast teh worse!1!!1!!1

Oh, and why would they invite reporters to test the game if they knew some parts would cause it to crash? At least they would have chosen other maps...And it's not like they leave you in a room alone with the game..."yeah here's the computer which you will play HL2 with, it has 100mb/s internet connection, don't leak this game to the net. We'll leave you alone now". Of course there is a supervisor, that goes with any game.

Ye the game wos not finished in 2003 , gabe said it himself after the hack ''Even if we hadnt of got hacked, the game wasnt finished and wuld still be developing'' (taken from an interveiw with gabe)

So what if it crashed which I have a hard time believing it did. A game that is still in the alpha stage will crash at times. If it didnt, it wouldn't be in the alpha stage. I dont understand why you continually push this point across. If it crashed, it doesnt mean it will be delayed again.

jeebers, games crash.. I mean thats why its not released correct?

I agree, all games crash no matter what stage.

The game may have crashed to stop the magazine guys from seeing something they weren't allowed to know of at the time?

An easier way than deleting parts of a map, triggering a quit?

did anyone say 'sour grapes'....?

I think this just goes to show how much controversity that revolves around this game....its great :D

Personally i think gamestar probably just had a bad experience with the HL2 preview...i mean hell i'll admit it i played the doom 3 leak and it crashes constantly - so what? Granted its not the same thing in your eyes - but it is to me....games crash - even HL2.

Just read the gamespot impressions too, and that just wreaks 'bad journalism'....too bad!

Btw if you aren't familiar with alpha/beta playsessions - like it was mentioned by another poster, the journalists will always be accompanied by a representative of either the dev team or a support team....only to minitor, never to give out play 'orders'....if that was the case, why was'nt that mentioned by the other mags/websites.

This whole thing smells fishy - but hey thats just my oppinion

i was just wondering.. is it too early to re-create the "Will my toaster run HL2?!??!" thread?

it was one of the most enjoyable threads in this section back then.. it be a good way of lightening up the mood :E
