Is it possible to change the settings or will it always be auto-dectect?

Well, I'm a bit worried.
From what I've been reading so far I've got the impression that the sttings will get auto-dectected and the game will play with those graphical-settings it will find.

I have a state of the art PC and well, my experience with games that auto-dectect your hardware is horrible. Since VALVe never responded to any of my emails, I wonder of any of you guys might know the answer from before or some cool person would be able to mail it to them?

There will be options for both.

I've never seen a game that forces scaling options upon you, and i highly doubt valve will do this.

No game that i know off has a "forced auto-detect" settings..
The auto-detect is to help people find a good config for their computer, not to force you to use some settings..

Yep, I don't think a game has ever given me the right settings by auto-detecting...

nope...it's optional. though the first time you start the game the settings will be determined based on your hardware.

it usually detects and sets it to what it thinks is best for your PC. doesn't mean you can't change it in options tho

I never trust auto-detect. I guess this stems from me using it on my old computer, and it just looked horrible...so I always upped the graphics to as high as possible. I guess this is why I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't mind playing at 15fps.

auto detect usualy puts me on crappy settings...

but i find it very enjoyable cranking it up to full... muhahahaha
