Is it possible to upgrade my processor?

I was just thinking of ways to have a better comp without going and buying a whole brand new one and I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade my processor. I have a anthlon xp 2500 1.8ghz processor and a ASUS a7n8x motherboard. Do any of you know if it would be possible to upgrade to a processor of around 2.3-2.4ghz. ? Will my motherboard support it or am I totally out to lunch? If you could help it would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hmmmm it appears that that mobo uses Socket A CPUs, and not many processors were made with socket A. This is probably the best your gonna get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103392 My advice is keep saving your money 'til you can buy a new sexy computer, thats what im doing . Added these to a Tyan Tiger MPX mobo with 4GB of ECC Registered RAM and they rock!!! Ignore the speed thing, these kill a P4 any day of the week. Caution: Cooling is very important here. These are server processors so make sure that your case has adequate cooling.

But yeah, your best bet would be to save up and build a completely new PC. Either that or a new motherboard and a shiny new A64, but that'd be a waste, since the whole AGP going dodo thing.

And a 2.5 ghz A64 is mighty fast. I'd go with a 2.2ghz 4200+ and using the saved money on a video card.

That's not a mobile, it's a multi processor. And the mobile procs are much better than the regular ones, much lower voltages and unlocked multipliers.
