Is it REALLY coming out on the 16th?

Hi - please excuse me if this has come up - this is my first post here.

Is anyone else wondering if this will REALLY drop on the 16th? Why are we not seeing masses of promotion? Why are there no online reviews yet? I would atleast expect HMV or Virgin Megastore to have some kind of "Coming Soon - the greatest PC game EVER!" type promotion going on.....nothing! Not a sausage!

I have preordered the game through Amazon and am PRAYING that the 16th will be the release date...which means i guess i can expect the game 3-4 days later. To think i will be playing this game in approx a week and a half just doesn't seem realistic to me right now - maybe im too cynical in light of all that has happened to it, i don;t know. Does anyone else know what i mean? It just seems that at the last minute, im expecting them to announce another delay.

If you dont believe me use the SEARCH button and search for "Official Gold Announcement" or something similar to confirm it

go check pc game magazines, they have all reviewed it

No online reviews is because there is a contract for online press that they are not allowed to put up reviews till the game is released.

if retailers break the street date, maybe there will be some people who already have it this saturday! :afro:

like it was the case with doom3. the official release date was on a tuesday, but people already had it on saturday the week before.

Virgin megastores does, they have boxes with "reserve HL2 now". They didn't have that a month ago. And besides have you checked GAME yet

The embargo lasts until(usually) a couple of days before the release.

It's not like they just cook up some 9 page review out of nothing in a matter of no time.

Think of it like this.
Vivendi is massing out cd's at there very momment. Valve is sitting around doing nothing. Valve has no control over the release date at this point. Vivendi said the 16th. It's coming on the 16th. Vivendi is also making WoW and promoting that to.....
But i agree vivendi should start promoting it more.

It doesnt need promotion and hype. VALVe know they have a big enough fan base. its not just all the people that chat on hl2 forums etc. all the others too.

+the ones that will get the game after all the rave fan reviews etc, after the game has come out. it jsut doesnt need the promotion or the hype at the moment.

Anyone remember when HL1 came out? Same deal, not really anything in the way of hype advertisements. I believe it'll make the biggest splash the day it comes out, with high rated reviews and word of mouth talking the game up.

Don't worry, even if folks don't buy it, we all still will have it... and that's all that counts right?

I work in a GAME store and we have been doing pre-orders for ages, we have a whole wall of HL2 cases up!! The reason for lack of hype is that with GTA an Halo2 coming out around this time it has ment that alot of the advert space has been taken up with other things. The company that spends the most money gets the most advertising, and when your microshite you can afford ALL the advertising.

Funny. Ive seen HL2 ads almost eveywhere, all the stores have ads of it on their sites and stuff. The most powerful ad is of course the word of a friend, almost all of my classmates know to wait november 16th

I know what you mean, I can't believe I will be playing the game in a few days after checking the HL2 news (almost) every day since May 2003. That's around 570 days! But there's no reason why it should be delayed again because all the reviews are enthousiastic about it.

yeah i have ordered off Amazon as well coz it offers HL2 with 1st class delivery for 28 quid and thats the cheapest i can find. if you ordered it 1st class then you should get it on the 16th; a guy i know ordered San andreas off amazon and got it a day earlier than the release date. I think the guy who started this thread must have got free delivery which is 3-4 day delivery.
