Erik just posted this outline of how Steam will work over the next few weeks.

http://steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11562

Note that buying games over Steam wont happen for at LEAST two weeks. I'm guessing that they want to test buying games over Steam with CS:CZ before they go live with HL2 (which will be much bigger), and so they figured they have until Steam is ready to further polish up CS:CZ for release.

SKIN SUPPORT!

the only thing I give a crap about until HL2 is released...Im sick of the camo puke scheme.

I noly hope they arent talking about CS player skins :/

That makes sense...

(and on the CD-key... I hope it allows more than one account on just one... we only have one copy of Half-Life!)

Dammit i have two physical original copies of HL, but only one cd-key (my FCUKING retarded cousin borrowed my game and never gave me back the manual, excuse the language but it pisses me off). I hate this...

The CD-key isn't on the manual, it's on the CD case...

Atleast on the version that I got (Adrenaline pack).
But why would it matter, you have a CD Key, and that should be all you need.

Atleast form what I understand from what I read:

You can login to Steam just using your HL CD-Key. If you can play any form of Half-Life multiplayer, be it Vanilla HL, CS Retail, Blue Shift, Day of Defeat or anything else (although I think that's about it), you can play on Steam. All you need is a CD-Key that you can play online with (just one).

If you don't you can still use Steam, to get the movies or play checkers with people on your friends list, or just to register before HL2 comes out.

It also sounds like they might be moving over regular HL multiplayer to use steam. Although that probably just means that Steam users can connect to regular HL servers. I happen to love the Steam GUI, so I am very happy with that news, although I don't know if that is what they mean.

Why would you ever need to play more than one copy of HL at the same time?

That almost never happens, people usally get images of the game and have no CD-Key.

more cd-keys equal having people at your house playing online with you. my friend has 2 comps and we need 2 cd keys to play online
:bonce:

Exactly. And the 2nd original physical copy of HL1 i own is the version were Opfor, Blue shift and CS are included. I bought it because at that shop, it was cheaper than the seperate blue-shift copy, which is what i was actually buying. So it did get me a 2nd key, and the pack was a DVD-box, so the key must have been inside instead of on the outside of the box. Probably on the manual. Which is pretty much lost.

your old HL will not go away... just play cs 1.5 with your friends

I'm actually not anticipating much from cs/cz.
I was greatly looking forwards to gearbox's first go at the title. When it was meant to be a super pumped up team game with Tony Hawk objective style gameplay. Since the developer juggle and after watching a few screenies I lost interest. They changed the proportions of the soldier models. Fattened them up so they looked more like HL1 soldiers. And I wasn’t to impressed by the early crouch animation. Looked kind of awkward. One of the best things about cs was how real the models looked. They were so different from HL1. They looked lean. Anyway… I know it’s kind of picky. I certainly hope they have got it right with cs/cz. But I’m not wetting myself in anticipation.
