Is the Crytek engine amazing or what.

I hope you didnt misunderstanding my meaning to mean; stakers set on a basic generic beach with a forest.

Stalker is a bland, bland, bland game.

Uh, I have a feeling you mean Far Cry. STALKER is set inland.

So is far cry, just because far cry is "light" doesn't mean it's stylish, just because stalker is "dark" doesn't mean it's not stylish. Dark has been done to death however, not many games have a non-post-apocalyptic setting. Far Cry will be different, and a breath of fresh air IMO, all the games today seem to be blending into one setting. Look at half life 2, doom 3, and stalker. They're all very similar in setting. Doom 3 is indoors, that's the biggest difference. Far Cry will use heightmaps and models for indoors, but apparently they figured out a way to do it better than battlefield, and the combat looks much better than the ground combat in BF1942.

Far Cry will definately be a new type of game, much different from the current, the engine capabilities are there, the question is whether or not the game will be good enough.

The AI looks very advanced compared to the current AI, which is mostly scripted, Far Cry's AI will not need bot routes etc...

In fairness...Doom was the first to be post apocaliptic and Half life 2 is carrying on a story which, although set after a disaster, isnt set after the end of the world.

heh

Halo is quite stylish but bright (what i have seen was), it's not quite on par with stalker though. Personally I don't think there is currently a game wtih stalkers atmosphere or anything like it.

Far cry is OTT if you ask me.

Even so its not set on a sunny island with beaches, I know what I meant.

What on earth are you talking about? Far Cry is set on a sunny island with beaches, STALKER is set around the radioactive wastelands of Chernobyl, definitely no beaches in site there.

STALKER can get very light during the day. Some of the skylines are beautiful. The atmospheric fallout makes for some beautiful sunsets.

iamironsam: I agree with you but it has a darker atmosphere than Far cry.

Apart from just the gameplay itself, the feeling can be important to me too. I get the feeling that playing Farcry will make me feel like I'm playing a rambo sorta game, and I like that. It looks like the kind of game that I will feel like a badass when I kill a bunch of guys because it actually took strategy and brains to do so. HL1 sorta had that, but once you learned the AI, you knew how to exploit it.

I really like how the environment looks in Farcry as well. I like the lighter look compared to Stalker's seemingly dark and dreary look. It looks to me like Farcry has better graphics. Although from what I've seen in screens, Stalker takes the cake with weather. The clouds, sunsets, and just weather in general in Stalker are unrivaled.

I have to look at more info for Stalker, but right now I'm looking forward to Farcry more.

EDIT: From what I've read of the Stalker storyline, they talked about mutant animals...are there gonna be alien-like badguys? I hate it when most games do that. They go from fighting humans and add in demons or monsters and such, it can ruin a game IMO. In HL1, it was ok. I must admit I liked facing marines much more than aliens. There was always a simple strategy for defeating aliens that made it no fun. Marine battles would usually vary more.

EDIT2: Wtf.. some of the enemies are messed up for Stalker.. rat wolves? Dwarfs (look like little trolls). Looks kinda strange to me...

i hate to say it, but these interactive demos are from MARCH 2003. far cry engine has gotten a major facelift since then. you probally didnt know but far cry was planned to have dinosaurs, and the name was X-Isle. but they changed it into a real fps :) they delayed it a few weeks ago, to add multiplayer support. i hope they add co-op.

i had some screenshots from a few weeks ago on the demos. they are pretty big pics, but anyways here.

^not bad for a engine built around a geforce 3 ;)

anyways my comp stats are

1.5ghz p4
512mb ram
ti4200 gf4

it ran seamlessly, no loading times, and no laggin. i cant wait to see the updated engine next year.

Hmm is it me or does Far Cry remind you of a mix of the usual games and a Reality Show? Its gonna be very COOL cant wait to play it, looking forward to HL² even more tho. :)

Anyways I made some 1600x1200 shots of the cryenginedemo where I took some with/without bumpmapping of 2 dino's, and a very nice view over the island... Contact me on #halflife2 to get them(DCC).

I did, it's just the fact that you're not making sense that complicates the matter.

Well, it's not set out so that you're fighting humans first, then mutants. You're up against them both from the start... well, if you're that kind of a player, anyway.

Far Cry has failed to hold my interest, in absolutely every catagory I can think of. The characters/environemts look like plastic, and not the good DoomIII plastic; I'm talking about crap. The game doesn't even look up to par with Deus Ex 2, and Deus Ex 2 doesn't look as great as these other games.

I'm going to have to go with "or what."

I couldn't get those stupid nVidia-only techdemos to run on my ATi, but the Crytek engine does look really impressive. I'm just not happy with the design decisions the developement team has made in the game.

It looks like they were going for realism are far as the models go, but everything has this shiny plastic coating on it that isn't necessary. The gameplay looks like Serious Sam. The guns don't buck at all even after you empty an entire clip. The grenades have this stupid trail when your throw them. I think the B-Movie quality story line is the dumbest of all. I mean, sure, you don't need to save the world in every game ever made, but you're a f*cking charter boat captain turned one man army in this game.
