Is the type of RAM is have bad?

Bank cycle time and DRAM idle timer, how come I don't have those?

It's good RAM.
Of coures it's always good to have 512MB total too. ;)

256 is less than what most people have now, 512 is the recommended currently, pc2700 isn't as fast as pc3200 but it's still good. And Micron is a very good brand of ram.

aslong as your ram runs 1:1 with your cpu bus speed, it's just fine :)

I want to throw out(not literally) one of my 256megs of RAM and get a 512 for a grand total of 768.(and eventually anouther for 1gig) What should I get? Cheap as possible without being unreliable/slow would be good. THanx

I just changed mine from 4:5 to 1:1. Will it work better now?

As long as it's stable, it should be.

assssssuuuuuuuuuussss! :D

What system do you have and how many slots do you have?
If you have dual channel memory but use a 256MB and 512MB stick it will run in single channel mode. As soon as you use 512MB and 512MB sticks it will go back to dual channel.

If you have 3 or 4 slots and a PC that uses Dual Channel memory, I would suggest putting both 256MB sticks next to eachother with the 512MB on the other channel and it should run in dual channel mode then.

Does your system support dual channel memory?
Are they in the correct slots? Check your manual.

My mobo is IC7 MAX3, does it support dual channel? I'll check the manual to see if they are in correct slots

ok read the manual and saw that they're not in correct slots.

Thanks Asus, would never know this if you didn't say it :)

Dont do what I did. I got one of those "I want to use even more money than I had planned on my upgrade"-days, and bought 4 x 512MB Geil Golden Dragon PC3200. I didn't know that this ammount of RAM was overkill, and I didn't discover it until it was to late to return 2 of the chips. I haven't noticed a decreased performance, but people tell me that it usually slows you down.. :(

I usually just try to convince myself that it's not all that bad. At least I have enough RAM to play Solitaire.
