I use the arrow keys to move, but when I let up on the key I keep moveing for a little bit, I slide. Is there a fix for this?
Thanks

It's like being on ice

I think I'm going to have to get use to it ! ! ! !

thats the way its supposed to be
if you play the original half-life youll notice that its also present in that, to an even greater degree

ya i think the original was worse (not that it was bad, but you get the picture :))

There are options in the console:

sv_friction 4
sv_stopspeed 100

You can try messing around with the values they have and seeing if they do anything useful.

sv_gravity is certainly a fun one. Putting gravity value at 25, it was like being in space. Add in the super-gravity gun and I was causing low-gravity chaos. :smoking:

Thanks Doomed

I might try some of that out. It seems to be a little easer to play the more I play.

It's far easier... all the buttons are right next to your hand, you never have to move. That's why it's the default in FPS games...

Im left handed and I find it difficult to use WASD.

Not everyone is the same as you, I hate people who presume everyone uses the same method as them

Being left-handed has nothing to do with it. My best friend is left handed and he games fine like a normal person. I do not presume everyone does things the same, I just don't understand why you wouldn't. I assume you are trying to say you use the mouse in your left hand, but that is awfully odd and harder to do, regardless if you are left-handed. Gaming has always been done in one perspective, regardless of which hand is your primary. I would call what you do a bad habit that slows you down I'm sure.

WASD or arrow keys, it doesnt matter, it only depends on preference. once you get used to it, its all the same.
i just happened to use the arrow keys the first time i started to play FPS's, so ive stuck with it since, and it works for me just fine.

So do you move your hand off of the movement keys to jump, crouch, sprint, use, pick weapons, etc.?

I would call you a prick for being so presumptuous and pig headed.

no. there are plenty of keys surrounding the arrow keys to bind to all the rest of the commands (granted your fingers aren't too short to reach them).

Doomed: If I try this and I don't like what it does, what are the default settings? I don't want mess things up and not be able to go back. TNX
StainlessJ: I use the arrow keys, I can more or less find these with out looking.

The default values were in my post:

I can more or less find WASD without looking, along with most of the keyboard. Been resting my hands on a keyboard for 15 years. WASD is superior regardless of orientation simply because it's easier and quicker to reach other buttons that are mapped to common tasks in games, and are always default. You have to go through the process of remapping all the keys to a configuration that is less efficient simply because you won't change. And it has nothing to do with orientation. Left-handers use WASD too.
