Is there gonna be an intro to the game?

hl1 didnt have one will hl2 have one? ne1 know?
Hmm, what do you mean by intro? If HL1 had an "intro", then I assume you mean the Train sequence.

HL2 looks to have a train sequence aswell, from the E3 2004 vid. (The G-man clips where just for E3, not in the final game I am 99% positive)

no i mean an intro movie, and i said hl1 didNT have an intro. a cool cinematic intro would be cool.

i believe gabe said there wouldnt be any intro movie, and for that matter, no cutscenes at all

No it wouldn't, it would completely ruin the "YOU ARE GORDON FREEMAN" atmosphere they work so hard to preserve. If you see a cinematic, it removes you from the game and you become an observer instead of a participant. It's one of the reasons HL is special and something that really no other developer has yet grasped. The train intro is a damn fine idea.

I think the Half-life 1 tram ride was one of its best moments, and im glad there doing the same with a City17 train ride, with pehaps a little gman teaser to begin with.

No intro. The game is THE GAME. It everything that happens, happens in the game. There is no escape.

doubt it
valve are trying their best to stick with what worked in the first game

Intro/Cutscenes/CG in HL2 = poly /cry--and attack Apos with a 5000 foot Crowbar that talks like the G-Man.

/random wierdness

Ok sleep later

What on earth did he just say?

Intros can be damn cool (if a wittle incoherent a la Farcry), but I think the graphic payoff isn't as grand as the mental setup, being clueless as to what's going on and being immersed from the get go.

I'd just like to be able to start the game after the intro is over. Replaying the train thing every time I wanted to replay HL annoyed the crap out of me. I'd usually just start it, then go read a book or something.

Or have fun jumping from the front of the train to the back just by hitting spacebar. Yay physics.

They should make a nice cinematic intro that would summarize all of hl1

F6 = quicksave
or (although I dont condone, and hate cheats) sv_cheats 1
then kill (to restart, so they take effect)
changelevel c0a1 (or whatever it was)

The training level was sort of a intro. Its a better way imo to get introduced into a game rather than some cut sense and then being tossed into a random action scene.

An intro for a game meant to be played in the first person all the way through...yeah...sounds rather LAME.

:D Intro in the game? Yes, the Valve logo at the start.

NO CUTSCENES.

this means no intro/outro, and is the best idea ever in gaming history IMHO.

if you want to know what happened in HL1, GO BUY THE GAME FOR 5 DOLLERS IN THE BARGIN BIN!

and if your to cheap to buy it, but you still want a summary, go watch the 1 hour quick vid! otherwise give up!

If theres gonna be an intro (and the train ride on HL1 was one of the best intros to a game I've played) then its gotta be that bit on the e3 2004 vid with the Gman lulling you out of your sleep with the stars and black mesa behind you!

How damn cool would that be!

Wake up Mr.Freeeeeman....wake up and smell...the ashes!

:bounce: :bounce:

That would be one harsh wake up call to see his ugly mug first thing in the morning.

I believe an intro to HL2 would not be right. My kind of an intro is just a black screen with the words "Half-Life 2" and then you play as gorden..just like HL1.

It's all you need.

what the ****? are you some sort of ps2 fanboy? **** an intro movie this is 2004 its all about in engine cutscenes.

Yeah, I've always wondered why other developers never grasped that. It would have been one of the first things I stole from HL if I were making a game.
