Is this realistic?

Realistic not as in "life-like" or "doable" but as in "would people play this?"

I've been trying to think up a really innovative idea for some time now.

So far,what I thought up of is an FPS that plays with guns, but where killing is neither encouraged nor scored, and is a very rare thing. That would mean guns are innacurate and used mostly for supression, and getting killed just puts you back in a short reinforcment queue. Kills are not announced publically or locally. This way, all the emphasis is on objective based game play. The problem is how can you be prevented from doing an objective if you can't get kill :/.

Does anyone see where I'm coming from?
 
that would be hard to do. The more inaccurate you make weapons, the more it encourages people to run up and hose each other at point blank range

I understand what you are going for though. You seem to be more for shooting from cover and spraying down other people's positions while they do the same. Every once in a while someone gets taken out.

For starters you'd probably need some sort of setup where if you shoot, the fastest you can move is a slow walk. You'd need lots of cover. And you'd need some sort of benefit from suppression fire. ala america's army (america's army has you lose accuracy when under suppressive fire) and the only accurate shots would be iron sight shots using controlled burst or single shot. The player speed would have to be keep kinda slow, weapon damage very high, and level design along some sort of general push type design.
 
The concept has potential. Here's a sample backstory for you: several years into the future WWII erupts and most of the world's armies are decimated. Environmental disaster ensues and in the aftermath the only survivors are those that have retreated undergroun. Over the course of decades, even centuries, people have adapted to life underground where guns are not very effective, and as a result people have switched to different methods of killing. Fast forward years later, when the first of the survivors emerge to claim patches of relatively intact oaisises (sic). Above ground, they find that guns are much more effective for killing people, but since no one has touched one in such a long time gun use is plentiful but unskilled. To compound the problem, most weapons are out of shape and dirty, and perform very poorly.

Just something I thought of, to justify inaccuracy. Otherwise, people might ask why accuracy is so...unrealistic?

how odd... you're religiously posting in a forum for a computer game and telling others that this somehow makes you better than the other guy who is also posting in a forum for a computer game...

How exactly are you different? Do you honestly think you are any better off than the rest of us?

On topic : The idea is very nice, but how to implement it correctly would be quite hard. The levels would also have to be littered with cover so the teams can flank each other. Fast communication would be needed too for real teamwork.
 
Perhaps something else to impliment would be heavy use of external artillary support? So even though weapons are inaccurate, people are too afraid to go run in guns blazing, because u can keep up a pretty consistant barrage of mortor and bomb fire.

Equally, weapons could need to be mounted, any weapon that is a projectile weapon would need to be first mounted on some sort of wall, or on the floor (think DoD). This is obviously not realistic... but how about you just make up a totally fantasy world in terms of physics lol XD

Also, there could be a high reliance on melee weapons... for this you might want to switch to 3rd person view? Whatever the melee weapons are, be it light saber style or dwarfish i dunno... I think it also encourage people from just charging, these of course would be far more effective then using guns, but you need to be up close. This may encourage charging too however hmm...
 
There is very little to comment on here though the idea is mildly refreshing. If you're looking for something innovative, don't make it a generic team-objective based military shooter.
 
I understand, but you should make it more like an MMO where when you get into a batlle you have to accept a battle invatation.
 
This would make me think of a stealth game.
Where the object is not to be seen by the enemies as they can easily outgun you and kick your ass all over the place....

How about a Mod with 2 teams.
Two teams trying to do diffrent objectives without being seen by eachother or the computer.
The teams could both have a few guns but they would be extremely loud thus causing the computer to go and check whats going.

The computer would be Smart, and extremely strong so the players would have a bitchy time killing them thus causing them to stay in the shadows.
It could really work and possibly be quite fun.
Anyways....thats my take on this.
 
lol nice eyes.....well maybe it takes place in a galaxy far far away... and there has only been 1 world war?

Sorry, I meant to say WWIII. Actually the concept sounds like a medieval themed game; replace guns with bows and crossbows, which are inaccurate at long distances, emphasis on melee, etc.
 
Hmmm...never seen it before... Though mine steers far more away from killing. I was thinking more of a... "Splinter Cell" kind of thing. I mean... Get heat vision n all that...be climbing in a vent. You are going to disable something(objective type thing), when a small hole in the vent reveals an enemy player just about to complete his objective..Do you kill him and drag attention to you or do you keep on going with your objective?.
If you make a wrong move, trip an alarm etc..you have to run your ass off.

I wouldn't mind a game with my idea at all....
 
Replies have just been piling up, and I haven't been checking back :).

My problem is: How can you prevent people from doing objective if killing them ishard? I think if I can find a way to answer that question, this could be a really innovative idea.
 
If the only way to complete the objective is to take advantage of the enemy. Think the water level in super mario 64. You had to jump on the shovel enemies and use their attack to flip you to the next area.
 
well having killing be hard would be a hard thing to do. If someone is dumb enough to get all up in my face, i feel i should have every right to waste him easily.

Over longer ranges things should be harder because people are shooting from cover. If you play POE for battlefield vietnam you'll get a better understanding of this.

Recently the devs took out the usual crosshairs/slight zoom and replaced it with tiny red dot/ironsights. They also tweaked the accuracy of the guns.

Now if you are running and shooting your shots will go everywhere. Effectively hitting somone 30 feet away while running is almost impossible with most guns. You have to bring up the ironsights to get any sort of accuracy.

Now couple that with adding lots of cover everywhere and drawn out shootouts become very common
