Is this true? $499 for a 6800ultra/x800xt

i will never pay over 499 for a video card, i go to pricegrabber.com i search x800xt, i get it for 799 at zipzoomfly, wtf is this bullshit who are they kidding

are the 128 bits or osmething or are they the bad version? i know the prices for the x800xt will drop to 499 from 799 from other sites in due time, but did this site drop early in price?

It's true, $499 is the price the cards are supposed to be. But people want them so bad, and they're in such short supply, retailers can sell them for more money and get away with it because the people who can afford a $500 card every 6 months don't care. But lately they're starting to get more in stock, so yes the prices are going back to normal. And no they're not 128-bit versions. And stores like CompUSA and Best Buy have always had them for $500. It's the online retailers like newegg and zipzoomfly that have sold them for more.

Yeah, they have really high demand for some reason.
Generally retail stores offer them at their recommended price while other places will price them according to low supply/high demand and price them higher.

X800pro's were selling for well over 500$, right when they came out, at some stores while Compusa and others were priced at 399$. Of course you were lucky if you could actually find them in stock at those stores.

uh right now the american dollar to canadian dollar is $1.30 right now so ya and also where i live we have to work to get paid the same amount of work you do and we get paid around the same so we have to work twice as hard to get a video card. so the american dollar isnt worth that much more then the canadian so $800.00 is still overpriced.

yeah thats silly. at first i got on a waiting list for an HIS x800xt for 550 before tax. but then i found the BFG geforce 6800 ultra oc actually in stock at best buy for the 499 so i got that one instead. should be here friday =]

I go to a lot of websites and see this shit. I may want a 6800 ultra or a x800 xt but im not paying over the MSRP.

A couple days ago monarch had a 6800 ultra extreme for $999. They then dropped the price to $899.
Does anyone know what the MSRP is?
I emailed EVGA and they told me that it was $549 which insnt insanely expensive. Only $50 more for a bit extra performance When your already spending $500 isnt that big of a deal.
The funny thing is they sold out within 5 days.

Newegg seams like they are rasing a lot of their prices.
Its sad I went to my local store. They told me they didnt have the x800 xt in stock but they could order it for me from retailer and it would be here in 3 weeks. They told me it would cost $989. There is not a chance in hell I would pay that much.

They only cards I can find for MSRP are the X800 Pros, 6800, 6800 GT, 6800 ULTRA.
They X800 pro is much more availiable then then any of the 6800 cards. Its funny how they only card I dont want is the only one that is available.

I cant even go into best buy anymore and get Rainbow 6 Black Arrow for the xbox. Its advertised in the flyer, and they dont have any in stock.

It just seems like its getting worse and worse.
I have been trying to put togethor a system for 4 months now and I still only have 3 parts.
First the motherboard from MSI was delayed untill the 18th, then the athlon 3500 was on backorder, then my ram was on backorder, western digital raptor was on backorder. Then the speakers I want that were on sale sold out. The only things I have are my powersupply, case, optical drive.
Atleast the motherboard finally shipped today from NCIX.
