Isn't HL2 maybe a bit too overhyped

Just about every magazine and on-line review I've seen says something along the lines of "Yes, it's really as much fan as you would think by watching the e3 presentation. And yes, the whole game is just as good."

I'm not sure if the Doom 3 hype was similiar (I never was really interested in anything more than the graphics for it, which my computer would die on anyway) but from those reviews, it seems justified. I emphasize that I've not thought about this much though.

I was let down a couple of years ago when Carmack stated that Doom III wasn't going to have an 'action' button and that all your interaction would consist of activating doors by bumping into them. That's when I felt Doom III would be more eye-candy than anything revolutionary. I think HL2 has a much better chance of living up to the hype.

Ok the only thing that was maybe hyped up about Doom 3 was the AI. On the box it says:

"DISTURBINGLY LIFE LIKE. Real-World Physics. Killer A.I. AND 5.1 SURROUND SOUND"

Well the A.I. is "Killer". But not sure if they mean revolutionary or if they mean that it kills.

Lets get one thing straight here - HL2 is a sequel of a popular game - HL2 _will not_ be revolutionary in anyway shape or form in any department of a game.

Doom3 is the remake of an even more popular game than HL and look what you think of that.

Its just !another game! but has outstanding MP aspects and mod capability and nothing more.

Hmm let's see I was looking forward to doom 3 for quite a while and was more than happy with the game. I don't know where you're getting your facts from about most people not being happy with it, probably HL2 fanboys that warezed the game.

I was referring to my friends who were anticipating it more then any other game coming out this year. And people like Mr-Fusion who were, generally really really excited for the game but got let down.

DOOM 3 is a great game. I didn't really expect it to be this good. I'm nearly at the end and I must resist from playing it. It has many things left from it's predecessors and many things that will make you scream!

I can see it now. You know why some people just don't like it? You know why they didn't when the first Doom was released? I don't and there will always be those who just don't like it.

it seems to me that the ones complaining about doom III are very often hl2 fanboys...

doom III was awesome, hopefully HL2 will be too(most likely)

Seriously, until Gabe is riding around with a tricycle in town square with a megaphone advetising Half Life 2 it is not overhyped.

I would pay to see that

"Isn't HL2 maybe a bit too overhyped?"

Of course, we have the original Half-Life to thank for that

I don't think it can be too overhyped, because of all the delays. At least one of them had to draw some people back.

Its all about personal opinion.

I also dont believe its over hyped. We all have seen and known what the source engine can do. Its really good fun :)
