Its it weird...

Isn't it weird how only a few months ago, no one knew anything of halflife 2 and probably didn't give it much if any thought. Yet now, there is a huge community built around it. People are being outcast for being newbies, when 5 months ago all a lot of people here were thinking about was exams. We knew stuff all about Hl2 yet now people are acting superior enough to shut people up and make fun of them for not knowing that a texture in Dr Klieners lab was off alignment by 0.00001 or something. (Ive taken that example out of thin air before anyone gets scared).

Anyway, we are all settled into the community after such a short time. Strange....kinda cool really.

/me hides, because he didn't know the texture was unaligned....

Really if that sort of information makes me a newbie, then i'm a newbie (even though i'm a mod :p)

Oh well, it is wierd, it just goes to show how popular hl was :p

Yeah it really is pretty weird. You know whats also weird? The other day in the car i was looking out the sunroof, and i saw a plane. Maybe 30,000+ feet up. I mean im thinking to myself, there is actually people on that plane.

haha, i'm not the only one who think that! Wow cool.

Does that make me a leet ninja hac sore since I've been here since May?

I know what you mean Farrow, but most of us knew about haflife 2 for months now, I've taken notice since January when the rumors starting spreading around with the release of Steam to the public. :)

It's kind of weird, but there is something I've learned from browsing forums and websites. No matter where you go on the net, there will always be those all-knowing leet guys who know everything about anything who will call anyone else a noob.

Someone else who knows!

Its like i live on a main road and sometimes i sit at the window looking at the cars going past. I just think, each one of those people in those cars is going somewhere, they have just come from somewhere and thier lives have nothing to do with me. I will probably not see a lot of those people ever again, yet they will go about their lives, probably not giving more than a single though to the strange teenager who was staring at them from behind the curtain...

Then there are the people you meet in daily life, sometimes something happens out of the norm. For instance a really loud bang, you make a comment about it to the nearest person and have a brief conversation, never learning their name or anything about them other than what you can see.

When i log out of these forums, i go off and do something, i have my little life and none of you, except a few such as Badger Stone and Sniper are a part of it. When i log off, you people go about your lives, i am writing this and people all over the world (highlighted for impact :p) are reading it. Its amazing, how i can communicate with someone, within mere fractions of a second. I have been in a conversation with people from Europe, Australia, the Americas and Asia all at the same time...how many people who don't use the internet or lived before its time can say that?

Anyway, i had best stop because really could in all seriousness go on about this for hours, just marvelling at the scale of it all.

Remember, six billion live on this planet, and we know but a few of them....you could meet a new person everyday for the rest of your life and barely have scratched the surface.

AHHH Ive started talking again. Ok this time Ive stopped.

This is so weird...ive hijacked my own thread, because its just o amazing thinking about stuff like this. Well for me it is anyway. Also thinking about the sheer size of the planet. Having the INTERNET and fast planes makes it seem so small, yet its so huge! My country is small compared to others, yet its still pretty big, i mean, it would take a long time to walk the length of it.

I always think about poop like this, like, looking at people in the background on pictures and wondering "wonder where they are now?"

heh funny stuff to think.

Yeah...thats a weird one. Then there are things like when you were just a child of 6 or something, you met teenagers of about 15. Back then they were these huge guys, now 15 year olds (to me anyway) are young...scary. And the 15 year olds you met when you 6 are going to be in their mid to late 20's now. They will probably all ahve dull office jobs somewhere , working for a guy like David Brent.

Isn't it weird how before 9/11 all you heard on the news was how kids were being attacked by man eating sharks and two years later you don't read or hear anything about?

Yeah, everyday on the news they show the footage of the buildings falling down with "Death to all 'generic terrorist' scum" printed on the screen. It makes me sick....SICK!

A weird thought I have when chatting to people on the internet is how do you know that you don't know any of these people in real life, they could be some-one who you see regularly in life but you treat them entirely different on the internet due to the different environment and then if they were, would you really want that person to know it was you they had been chatting to?
Also, how do you know that a completely random person you see in the street isn't a good friend of yours on the internet? You might just walk past them and make all sorts of assumptions based on their appearence and never be any the wiser that you actually know them.
And finally, how do you know that that same person you pass in the street isn't some-one who you admire but don't know what they look like. For example, if one of the Valve team walked past me, I wouldn't be any the wiser, even if it was Gabe, whose picture I have seen but I still wouldn't link him with his physical appearence.
Strange.

Yeah i always think of that. This thread is getting more and more interesting, keep these thing coming.

What about the voices of people in games? Take the good doctor kleiner. We heard him so much through half life, killed him at least 20 times. Had him follow us around...yet how many people here really know this mans name? Where he comes from..What he looks like..Such a famous guy, yet so anonymous.

I'm sat in a chair at a computer all built be different people around the world. They are responsible for my comfort and my sitting here talking to you people...yet, i will probably never meet them, even if i do i doubt i would find out they built my chair.

Right now, on the other side of the world, people are getting up from bed, its a bright sunny morning somewhere, yet here its night time.

I'm not gonna sleep tonight, i will be thinking about this all the time!

EDIT: I almost didn't come to this forum...i would have stayed at the verc, but there was a really annoying guy who had something against me for no reason. So i decided to leave as i couldn't be bothered with the hastle of it all. I went of to planet halflife and saw something there that mentioned halflife2.net in passing. So i checked out the site, and it had a nice amount of info and stuff, so i kept coming, eventually i signed up to the forums and started the long and interesting walk to becoming a moderator and posting in this thread. Imagine if that guy hadn't have been so annoying. I would likely never have come here, or if i did it would have been different. I wouldn't have become a moderator, i would have met all these new people. I wouldn't have become a member of the OES mod team. I wouldn't know Badger Sniper and Stone the way i do now...My life could have been completely different all because of one post someone made in the verc forums....That post ---
"Yeah i do have a thing against you Sparrow...I don't like you"

The thing that always blows my mind is when i look up to the sky at night and see all the stars, or when i look at pictures of galaxies, and i think there could be someone out there. Its just incredible! And you know the old insignificance in relation to the rest of the universe well i read about 2 days ago that there are about as many stars as there are grains of sand on every beach and desert in the world multiplied by 10. I love things that are too big to comprehend!

Another thing i always think about is if i see a car on the motorway or something, i think i'll almost certainly never see that car and its occupants ever again in my whole life. Its wierd

I hate it when you say like "whoa, I'll probably never see that person again..."

Then I see them 2 hours later...:D

One thing that is hard to think about is this:
Try thinkin about what it would be like if there was nothin, no earth, no humans, no god, no universe, nothing, just emptiness. There would be absolutly nothin, nothin happens ever, an nothin ever did.
Also think about eternity, living for eternity, that is a very long time, your life would never end, never. Jus thinkin about those two things feels wierd.

I found out about HL2 at school, taking a break from an assignment. Didn't get anymore work done that day :)

Ive noticed it too...

If your serious about the teture being off in kleiners lab, im not buying the game...

j/k

... or am I...

....yeah, im j/k..

In today's news... STHU!

Also I think HL2 will be teh pwn x 1 milliun :D:|!1

At another forum I go to, they have a convention every year that people go to just to meet each other in real life :D

we should do the same thing - the only bad part here is that there are a lot more people from different countries so it would be harder to meet.

somethingawful does that, a goon meet, I don't have 10 bux to pay for their site to get an account but my friend does.

Strange.

The first two thoughts have crossed my mind on many occasions. I thought it could be hilarious. :)

But the first part is indeniably the whole axiom/crux of the internet: being anonymous gives us the right to be complete jerks without caring. :)

Dude, that's scary, i was thinking the same and i was gonna post about it until i read your post. I'm not shitting you. Imagining that the world doesn't exist is pretty scary. Just imagine, there is nothing, absolutely nothing! Now that you imagined it, think about it, if there's nothing, there is still something, and that is nothing. What does nothing look like? It must look like something. Scary.

It wouldn't be difficult at all...we could just meet up in my town, that would save a lot of trouble. It makes sense when you think about it, i mean i live here after all so it must mean that its the centre of the universe.

If nothing existed....then we wouldn't care because we wouldn't exist :)

Now then if you bend the words a little..you get a curve. No seriously though, imagine if in some pert of the niverse...nothing exist. So there was a bit of the universe where there truly was nothing, just a hole (although a hole suggests its going somewhere).

yep i thought about these things too:) and to think we are gonna have to meet infinity eventually whether we like it or not and we cant just keep prolonging how long it takes cos eventually earth will get consumed by the sun, and even if we survive that .....big crunch anyone?

Yeah, the concept of anything before the universe is just such a mind-boggling thing... Absolutely inconceivable. That and the concept of infinity.
Or the idea that life and everything will go on forever after you're gone - that terrifies lots of people. It just intrigues and confuses me.
And another one that weirds me out is the idea of not seeing using light. Such as using other frequencies of energy to get bearings of your environment (and there probably are organisms somewhere in the universe that use different methods) such as radio/microwaves, or smell... Strange.

I found a totallly albino vine, it had lived without light, yet still knew it had to search for it.... Thats interesting, if you never knew it exsisted, would you still want it? Would you accept what it is?

You wouldn't be able to see nothing, because if there was nothing you would be nothing, so if you are nonexistant and nothing is nothing then nothing is really nothing at all because we wouldn't know what things something could be...

think about it...

Yeah, you ahve to really think about this to know what im talkin about.
I think you got it tho, jus think about non-existantness, if nothin existed, not even conciousness, that would mean there is no reality, there is no point to anything, because there is nothing. jus a void i guess. but not even that, damn, so hard to explain, but im sure you all get what im saying.
