Isnt the HL2 preload a "gold" proof?

Ok, Valve has now 8 days to announce that bloody game as gold/done. If not, its another delay. I think people are getting pretty pisst off now.

Alright I am done being nice, SHUT THE F-U-C-K UP.

Sorry mods, just sick of it, kick me in the nutz if you want, I just had to say it.

I fail to see how it can be a delay if there isn't a release date to begin with.

And ill never have that recipe agaaaaain, ohhhh noooooooo

Valve are probably tied back by Vivendi, in other words they cant release through steam until its on the shop shelves. If not then Valve could just let you play as soon as its gold, hell they dont even have to wait for that i mean they arnt tied by publishing stuff when its going through steam.

Just realized something. If the game is completed in time of the Sept. release date, then they could release the game on Steam. And we would not have to wait for the gold process (i.e. dupication). That way Steam has an advantage and the only incentive to buy off Steam.

It would suck if we would have to wait for the retailers to get the game.

Sierra probably won't allow Valve to release it on Steam before the game reaches stores.

And with this whole preloading of HL2 files, is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

GCF Scape

:)

Well, its a good thing the preload is beginning. The gold date can't be too far off then.

I'm quite sure Vivendi could be going through as release candidate as we speak. Why should Valve tell us what they're up to? Obviously the stuff in the preload is passable according to Vivendi otherwise it wouldn't be preloading, which does suggest that a certain amount of testing has been done by Vivendi. The game has been nearly done for a while so I'd say most of the game will be ready for preload (even if we only get the 'dull' files now). Anything that could be influenced by the CS:S beta will be loaded last before the unlockage on release day.

Regarding GCF Scape. Forget it. Aren't these files heavily encrypted?

You would think so wouldnt you?, CSS beta GCF had absaloutly no protection at all.

Its maybe a good idea to release the game before the graphics its out of date.

FS and with all the STDs nowadays, and what if she got pregnant? HOW WOULD YOU COPE? YOU HAVE NO JOB, NO INCOME, YOU CAN BARELY DRESS YOUSELF IN THE MORNING, WHAT CHANCE WOULD A CHILD HAVE?

:burp:

God bless the cancel button.

They better encrypte them. I don't want tons of assholes who think they're "1337 /-/ax0rz" posting spoilers and ruining the game.

I don't know if someone remembers it, but last year Gabe said that Half-Life 2 would preload seven days before the release of the full game.

I was actually wondering about that (because I remembered him saying something like that too).

But I guess it can be said this won't be the FULL upload so those seven days may not mean much as of yet.

Lol. Anyways, as a pedantic point, I think that CDs are mass-produced using a pressing process.

no, no, no. an infinite number of monkeys are locked in a room with cd-r's and very fine pins, with which they jab the cd-r's over and over

He said a lot of things last year.

i agree!! :monkee:

Judging the status of steam ATM, I think it's safe to say that HL2 is going to preload today... but I fear how long the finished game will be delayed because of this delay. :O

I better make sure I have a couple of free gigs on my PC fpr the pre-load

it´s just like having a carrot in front of us so we all pull the carrage in the same direction

I love metaphors :)

It feels like a September release date to me, definately not October

I'm guessing on a late November/early December release, so they make the Christmas-rush :p

November.

And the preload could include things which are finished, such as models textures etc..............

That was a simile (sorry I just had to) ;)

November? December?! Half-Life 2 will sell well regardless of the date of release. Vivendi probably want the game out as soon as possible, like all of us too, and there's no point in holding it off like Condition Zero

Vivendi is in a tight situation financially, so they need HL2 to be released so they can make a good profit, something they are in great need of, asap.

So basically, that approves my point? :)

all the arguments, why the game must be released as soon as possible, remind me of the discussions of the last year.
A game can only be released when it's done.
So let's hope a gold announcement will come as soon as possible, but with discussing this again and again i think we won't force it to come earlier.

The preload does not mean Half-life 2 is "Gold"!

It means nothing at all really. All you are getting are game resources. They have been done for some time as well I am certain. From now till release the likelyhood of the art changing much is improbable. Furthermore if the art is updated a bit, they just overwrite the files in the gcf that need be.

Thanks RomeoJGuy.

I would laugh so much if the preload today is just a HL2 logo of about 20kb. I don't know why, but im expecting something like that.

I bet gabe is sitting in front of his computer right now, staring at a huge 'Upload Now' button on the screen, wondering whether or not to do it... until he is mobbed by a large number of HL2 fans that have cracked under the stress, and is never seen again (apart from various body parts being auctioned on eBay).

Just like some of you i feel like i've "been here before" =)

No other game, and i mean NO OTHER GAME E-V-E-R had this much impact on the gaming community even before release. I remember 'suddenly' seeing the E3 movie and i was stunned. Crazy about it... that was more than a year ago and i still am :D

The CSS beta wasn't encrypted, but the Codename: Gordon preload and the CZ preload were.

i just hope this preload portents the imminent release of the game, otherwise I will be sorely dejected.
