Can you be more specific? Everyone slams on the US,of course we're imperfect. But at least give us the respect our country deserves. What country has gone to as much trouble to help the world as the US?where did the Internet come from? the automoblie, the airplane?Half-Life2?

The Jews were nice to us...we're lucky to have them as friends and allies given our government's often clumsy support for Israel.

on the other hand the Muslims were hot headed and argumentative...and can anybody show me where in history has there ever been a "Palestinian" state?

Gabe ....there shouldn't be a HL2 Arabic version,there just shouldn't!!!

Palestinian media watch video's...disturbing

I get mad that people assume that ALL people from the U.S. are as ignorant as say... merc we do have lots of diversity here you know. If you steryotype United States residents as all the same then your no worse then what your accusing us of doing in the first place. Ignorance is bliss

person who posted last: I hope you are banned for your ignorance and attitude. I am jewish. Do you even know what happened and why Israel was created? After the holocoust Jewish culture in europe and the rest of the world took a blow (what culture wouldent with 5,933,900 people dead http://www.us-israel.org/jsource/Holocaust/killedtable.html) they needed a haven a place to not be persicuted and could practice there religion amongst each other. There is alllllot more to this story but I cannot post it all myself. I suggest you google it. This is not to say that I support all the actions the leaders of Israel make because in the land struggle I believe israel and the surrounding nations are both to blame in there greed.

I watched this program where they were asking Americans where Eye-Rack is, and a number of them pointed to where France is!

One time I was in America, and we were talking about WW2, and this girl asked me if France and Germany were close to each other!

Assuming you don't live in America. Tell me where all the 50 states are located..

it was nothin personal, don't turn this into a flamewar over racist stuff it aint about that. i mean some ppls views on the world, mercs post happened to piss me off at that time.

States aren't important like countries, though. And my fiancee is american, and she doesn't know where all the states are, nor does any American I have spoken personally with, although they generally have a good idea about the ones immediately surrounding their own.

I don't know exactly where half of the counties are in the UK, but I know where Ecuador is, that's on the other side of the world, too.

Plus Europe is the centre of the world in terms of civilisation and it's progress, and it's history, and is also the largest single economic unit and market, so I guess we just expect people to know how Europe is set up.

To cut a long story short, here major countries are common knowledge to everyone (I hope Americans included), not just to those who live nearby.

Plus WW2 is a huge chunk of WORLD history, so you'd expect people would know the circumstances of it.

PLUS I do not live on the same continent as the two countries anyway. Hence why those two countries are what's called "Continental Europe". (Ok, so I do live across a couple of miles of water from them, but hey :p)

Finally, I assume that you know where Germany and France are? Surely you think it's kind of stupid to not know where they are? I'm not saying all Americans don't know their geography, but you can surely see why it is humorous that one individual thought Iraq was in France?

Well... Don't just assume every American is like the ****tard that thought Iraq was in France.

This isn't 70AD. If Israel had never been made, we'd all probably be better off.

how can u deny some americans think america is the capital of the world? i'll say it again, i have nothing against americans, i like em tbh. don't be judgemental ur self

Man this is crazy!

This web site is about HL2 not race, politics or any thing else. Its all about HL2 and some of you guys have to grow up and see how you are acting. Because in the real world (out side this forum) most of you would never say this kind of stuff you would just keep it to your self so do the same here. Views on race and politics are good but if you disagree with someone do it in an intelligent way and explain your view.

I know some of you guys are young and dumb and have never talked to someone other then a person of your own background and race. Being a White, Black, Asian, Latin, etc., is not a chose its the way God made you and you should not be ashamed in anyway and you should not feel that it is wrong to be what you are. Well, any way Lets get back to talking about HL2 and not all this other stuff. :borg:

I'm American and I'll agree that there's alot of apathy and ignorance here in the USA.It's definitely a worldwide problem though...!

Walk down the street in your respective countries and ask someone what the biggest problem facing the world is ...apathy or ignorance and they'll probably say

"I don't know and I don't care"

...back to HL2

I live in america and i agree there are some people here that don't know anything about the rest of the world other than what they hear on network news.

But there are quite (sp?) a bit of informed people here to just like there is all over the world.

I believe someone mentioned this before that makes me mad about our network media is that the only messages you ever hear from the middle east are "another bus of 40 people got bombed, this got bombed, suicide bomber this... etc"

Also in (at least mine) the world history books i had in high school (relatively recent, 3 years ago) they BARELY mentioned anything about the middle east. Which is shameful because if we are actively over there with our miliary killing people, and a lot (not all, there are many informed americans believe it or not) of americans don't know anything about the middle east, as far as culturally or anything outside of what they hear about death and destruction on the news.

lol, in my world history class we played a "interactive video game" called Byzantine and it was supposedly taken from the middle east although it was really lame and didn't teach you anything...

i think they need to re-write a lot of american history books to include a good portion to the middle east, seeing as how it is severly lacking.

Sorry about the run-ons and stuff and incomplete sentences :-D

Yes, and half-life 2... the books should also be re-written in an attempt to include hl-2 (lousy attempt to keep thread on subject :D )

You all realise we live on one planet don't you? Is being friendly and loving towards one another really that hard? - hmmm, guess it is.

Damn Euros (and I'm one) messed up this planet. I can't wait for the day the next asteroid hits this planet and wipes out the Human virus we are. I just hope the Native tribes (American, Aboriginal, etc) survive and take care of the planet as only they know how.

No-one is better than anyone else...well maybe Gordon Freeman, but that's all.

The textbook industry in america is corrupt, the people who produce the textbooks care more about money than they do about being accurate and informative. There are many groups of school (distract school boards or something? not entirely sure who controls it) that decide to buy specific textbooks over other ones, depending on which ones fit their world-view the best, so the textbook makers try and pander to what the school boards want, rather than what is best for the students. Pretty sad.

Since you live in the same continent as the two countries, its common knowledge where all the countries are over there for you. I doubt you could point out the name of every state on an unlabeled US map.
I doubt most american's could either.

National geographic did a poll in 2002 of knowledge of geography, America came out 2nd worst in the world:

The National Geographic–Roper 2002 Global Geographic Literacy Survey polled more than 3,000 18- to 24-year-olds in Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Sweden and the United States.

Sweden scored highest; Mexico, lowest. The U.S. was next to last.

"The survey demonstrates the geographic illiteracy of the United States," said Robert Pastor, professor of International Relations at American University, in Washington, D.C. "The results are particularly appalling in light of September 11, which traumatized America and revealed that our destiny is connected to the rest of the world."

About 11 percent of young citizens of the U.S. couldn't even locate the U.S. on a map. The Pacific Ocean's location was a mystery to 29 percent; Japan, to 58 percent; France, to 65 percent; and the United Kingdom, to 69 percent.

...

More young U.S. citizens in the study knew that the island featured in last season's TV show "Survivor" is in the South Pacific than could find Israel.

Particularly humiliating was that all countries were better able to identify the U.S. population than many young U.S. citizens. Within the U.S., almost one-third said that population was between one billion and two billion; the answer is 289 million.

I also have another question... do any of you that live in other countries besides the US have a huge nationlism... it seems that almost everywhere i go here in the US has a flag up or some "patriotic" display or flag...

everywhere... then there are the SUVs (always the wealthy people) with the "God Bless America" bumper stickers, mini-flags, and window stickons... It just seems such a blatent bi-product of heavy commercialism its not even funny

That's tight idopik hopefully I can find a Lan the next time I'm there!

Enjoy your HalfLife2

i cry for my country. while it is full of a ton of very educated, very brilliant people... the fact that even 1 person in this country without some kind of mental illness cant locate our country on a map is disgraceful. and yes i can vouch for the activity of israels gaming community.

You do know what happened on September 11th right?

No, New Zealand is nothing like that. From what I've seen of the world, America is the only country that is so sickeningly patriotic as that.

"You do know what happened on September 11th right?"

Of course. But no matter what the president says it was directly provoked by our actions in the middle east for so many years. I don't agree with what they did, but you can't turn a blind eye to what our government is doing in the name of "9/11".

Read the patriot act for a good example of how our personal rights are being extremely unconsitutionally violated everyday. And for the sake of the people who lost their lives, realise the thousands of lives that have died in the past 3 years in our following wars on "terror".

Besides, this sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME in other parts of the world, yet we are so shocked when we see it first hand and all we want is blind revenge revenge revenge. Which is understandable but i would like to think that our government (which you would hope is made up of educated people) would be smart enough to think about its courses of action before loading up the tomahawk missles and bombing houses in afghanistan. Bin Laden who? The guy who did it? Where is he? Odd how he just disappeared off the news isn't it?

War on Terror is more like "War on civil, democratic dissent" and the brutish "your either with us on the terrorists, or against us" as put by the Bush administration.

And remember, more thousands are soon to come after (if it is ever) the attention is lost in Iraq. North Korea will be next because it is deemed "Evil"... you know, their just mongrels and cannbals, inhuman monsters there. Man its a good thing we had a war there so we would know that there IS a "korea" in the world.

Note that i am not bashing on the people of america, i am stating the inadeqicies (sp) of our government and how their act in adverse to the true wishes of the people. Everyday that goes by the systems of checks and balance instituted gets set aside more and more, since its a gradual event the majority of people don't even notice till the police come knocking on your door.

Omg city17 is gonna happen! NOOOOOOOOOOOO (another lousy attempt to keep thread on subject :-D )
