well, i'm gonna go ahead and buy a steam package today, but it feels a bit weird.

i mean, so i give valve my $90, so i can play CS:S?!

i mean, yah i'm gonna do it, but it feels strange to go ahead and give the company my money for a game that who knows when it will be released (HL2).

i've never really played CS enough to justify paying that kinda cash for it, but something is better than nothing, i guess.

yep, valve, you got me by the balls......

you can pay for the bronze edition and still get css
thats 49.95usd iirc

What so weird about it?

paying for a game that conceivably won't be out until next year, so that i can play the MP now.

like gamespot.com so eloquently put it:

"Half-Life 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but Valve will take your money anyway."

oh well, i'd rather pay valve than VUG.

EDIT: i guess i just rationalized my own complaint.

yeah pay valve. screw vu.

and ffs hl2 is released in november, so it isnt THAT far away. plus, valve are doing this to get their own back on vu. releasing it through steam is legal for valve, but vu can do nothing about it. really clever imo lol.

I know what you mean but as you say, they've got you by the short and curlies if you want to try out that Source engine sooner rather than later.

Main point; it's a great way for Valve to guarantee a few sales and stab VUG in their badly managed expensive-sandalled feet.

...god, where do I get these metaphors and analogies from? Last time I started muttering about Koi-Carp...

Look at it this way: you're paying for Counter Strike: Source and getting all the other stuff for free.

I hope not too many people will follow your example, because it sends out the wrong message - that Valve can ask people to pay the full monty for an incomplete product and get away with it.

By all means show your support for Steam if you wish, but it would be definitely preferable to do this when the game we're all waiting for actually becomes available.

90 dollah for counterstrike. 90 dollah! for counterstrike! Are you insane?!

meh you think you feel weird, try being me
Im gonna be blowing ~$130 on two copies of the silver via steam today.

why silver? its only 10 bucks more.. who gives a shit if I own all of it already.. its only $10 extra.

I loathe cs
he loves cs
and he convinced me to pick up a couple copies.
so I said **** it, at least we will have something new to play.

I doubt HL2 will be out next year, they wouldn't make the steam offer to win a trip to valve's closing date as Dec 31st 04 otherwise.

I know that paying £50, for a game seems a bit steep but you gotta remember what you're getting with it too.

Valves entire back catalog means CS:CZ, Blue Shift, Op4 etc right?

not blue shift..thats not compatible with steam atm..beos of the diffe engine. i think it means everything bar that. and tbh, i got all of the games anyways..:S
