Gentlemen, i have long feared this day. I thought it would never happen to me, but that was foolish thinking.

I have lost...my porn collection.

I know, no one should suffer such deep pain! I have added to the collection for about 5 years (not that much compared to some people), and i was very proud of it. Ofcourse, i kept a backup, but i did not update my backup for a very long time, so its not even half of what the real collection was. Im suspecting that its failing too, im too scared to connect it :S

I dont know what happened. Hard drive just...died on me. I have tried several recovery tools, none have worked.


Now if you will excuse me, im going to shave my head, carve ancient scripture on my arms, piss in my microwave, and kill myself.

My collection has never been lost, ever. It's survived two separate hard drive failures, but due to how tenacious smut must be I was able to copy the files off of the dying hard drive in both cases. Seven years, now. There aren't many files from the original collection that I still have; my tastes have changed a bit, and I've pared it down with "quality over quantity" in mind from time to time, but never have I lost it.

Also, you don't *really* need to keep files on your hard drive so long as streaming sites exist.

To be honest tho, having a porn collection is so old skool, there are plenty of websites you can just stream from these days.
 
I think a porn collection is an American thing, I tend to not really have one. I can see my girlfriend finding a massive 5 year porn stash on my laptop a little awkward. It was awkward enough when she saw the site pop up as she typed something into the browser.

Ugh, I was just thinking about this happening last night.

I have never made a back up of my files, and I've never had a hard drive die on me.

Slightly related, but I haven't "collected" masturbatory material since I was a wee lad, intercepting my mom's mail and relocating select pages of select items to a shoebox that was hidden deep within the cum stained recesses of my mattress. Maybe a few bookmarks here and there, or saving something that's epic for a couple of days, but that's it.

Look at my location and look at my post history in relation to the topic at hand. Living in Australia is the least of anyone's worries and if you referring to the recent Breast thing that's bogus. I don't expect people to RTFA or do fact checking of their own but when bogus claims start appearing surely people will doubt them.

I was under the impression that the popularity of the porn collection vanished, or was severely decimated, when porn entered the Web 2.0 paradigm.
 
I have no porn collection. Why would I need one, when I can just go to a streaming site and watch new material.

It's all about having some videos of EX-girl friends to be fair.
 
All I have is my temp folder, and my active communities. I never really kept more than 100mb of the stuff since I never really lose my internet, at all. Once you have seen it once, the effect just runs dry; a lot like my relationships.
 
I really don't understand the mentality behind porn collections. I see porn as a very disposable commodity.

You kids and the convenience of your streaming sites. You've got no love for saving something that once gave you a mighty, steel-hard boner. You've got no sense of searching around trackers and TGPs, you don't feel the thrill of scanning through piles and piles of digital smut until you reach that night's holy grail, the one that makes you shoot like the fiercest cannon, and preserving that file in some permanence on your hard drive, knowing that the very next day you might never find that particular movie again. You have no grasp of what it is to file something away for posterity, or the feeling of being an explorer when months, maybe years down the line, you go through old folders only to find long-buried .mpgs, .avis, and .wmvs with vague file names. And when you click on them and watch, you say to yourself, "Ah, I remember this. Good times. Good times."

another reason to collect it is for nostalgic reasons...when you're 90 years old and living in a nursing home, you want to remember what you beat the meat to...the classic stuff, not this futuristic lame porn (you know it's gonna be lame)

This describes my nights from 2004-2009 to a T. It became too hard to torrent when my roommates weren't all gaming once they got different sleep schedules. The two tracker sites I used, combined, amounted to about 300GB.

I keep around 200 megs of images/videos that I really like a lot. Other than that I don't keep much, and I regularly cut down the stuff that I liked at the time, but don't like anymore.
 
I keep absolutely, positively zero percent of porn on any of my terabytes of HDD space. That's just ****ing dumb.
