It's been a long five years...

Got interested in HL2 after the source code and "beta" leak. Read the forums for a little and joined in '04.

Hey guys, Bad^Hat here.

Now I'm not normally one to gush in these sort of threads, and today will be no exception.

Continue.

Looking for discussion of the game after I bought it, I stayed for the cookies.

At the ripe ol' age of 13, I think a day before my birthday (for 14). 17 now. indeed.

Yeh you were a right little scrot lol.

Toaster should really be a success story on an Orange Box infomercial.

I went to search a hl2 forum. Found hlplanet, but people there are assholes. Came here, searched for decent people. Saw image dump, lmao and join.

Lol. I've been around forever. FOREVER. Other than Lobster and Bad^Hat.... FOREVER.

Who here remembers Spitcodfry and his visit to Valve???? And who here remembers the 5000 page thread the day before HL2 was supposed to be released but then came news of the source code leak?

*raises hand*

And Pepperidge Farm ain't gonna keep it to Pepperidge Farm's self.

My friend Dave was like "Dont post in this forum I don't want you here I already have to deal with you posting in the other forum we go too alright please dont". So I joined.

He went by Deus Ex Machina.

That explains almost everything.

I think I was googling Half Life stuff compulsively and found this website in '03. Wow, doesn't feel like it's been that long at all.

We need some Hal's on this forum to cancel them out.

After five years I've realized I don't like the smell of my own farts anymore

yup...5 years.

can't remember how i joined but i do remember that my first posts were about custom mapping. some time later i've got trapped in the off topic, or was it general...i forgot.

there are few things that really had a profound effect on my life...HL2net is one of them, who would have thought :p

I've bein here for almost 1,5 year.

Can't remember how/why I joined though,

still Hl2.net ftw!

I'm glad this wasn't a leaving thread, but this is a leaving post.

I'm coming back because I love Ennui too much.

These forums have really matured me, socially and intellectually.

I'm not sure what I'd be like if I hadn't spent so much time on the net, and here.

I'm not the kind of person that can easily make friends in real life or who loves going out, so I think this was really the best way for me. I think if you ignore the 'pathetic' connotations of spending your life on the internet, you could say spending this much time socializing with people of such variety from around the world has matured me much more than I could have hoped for with real life socializing.
To an extent I agree with this. These days, I'm a very gregarious person, and I love going out and meeting new people, but I know that, honest to god, I've learned a lot here. Very strange.

I joined here looking for information about Alyx. Wondered if she had died.

Tomorrow is my anniversary!

Happy anniversary halflife2.net

Yes, I've always figured that some of us who are scientific or philosophically inclined wouldnt be so if it wasnt for places like this where you can be totally anonymous. Not that these forums or any other have made me interested in those topics, its just a relieve that if you make a dumbass comment you can always just log off and go about your life, or reflect on what was said. For me at least I wouldnt have tooken the step outside of my insecurities to get a more broader look at the world if it wasnt that for forums like these.

What a great 2 months.
:D

No-one told you about the hazing ceremony that takes place on your fourth month here, have they?.

*looks you in your eyes like a war veteran looks at the new recruit, knowing what he knows and not having the heart to wipe that innocent smile off the lads face*

.....

*pats your back and walks away shaking his head slowly*

And you have a shit load of posts for that small amount of time. Alright bend over, we will make this quick.

I was googling Half life 2 many years ago, and found this home.

Five and a half years ago I couldn't have imagined that I'd be living in Paraguay.

Although halflife2.net hasn't had much to do with that :arms:
You all mean nothing to me!

Nah, I'm just kidding. You guys are alright.

(Also, I'm following the precedent set by Sulkdodds)

I searched for something half-life related on Google, I think, and came up with this site. Best place on the internet IMO.

This. Except the anime part.

I dont remember how I got here though. I have no idea whatsoever. I think it may have been because I saw an E3 video for it. This one:

I was pretty blown away, I remember that much. I had never heard of half life before that.

I originally signed up for some tech support questions about Steam.

November 16, 2004, been downloadin' all night
The Steam install is finished, and the game is alright
The download took forever and the servers are booked
I had to stop for the night
Some guy with a valve in his head; I heard the opening bass
And I was thinking to myself,
what the F is wrong with this place?
Then the Gman woke me up and he showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say...

Welome to the hotel halflife2.net
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
Plenty of room at halflife2.net
Any time of year, you can find it here

Dr. Breen sold us out, maybe he'll make amends
The Combine's got a lot of Vortigaunt slaves, that they call friends
How they sweep the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Don't drink the water - it'll make you forget

So I called up tech support
please help my game
They said "try reinstalling again, or your drivers are probably lame"
And still those members in the support queue
Make reposts in the middle of the night
'cause the search won't do...

Welome to the hotel halflife2.net
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
They livin' it up at halflife2.net
The place is a hoot, bring your flame suit

Screenshots on the front page
online forums are nice
And the moderator said, "we are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
And in Munro's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They ban them with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember,
I took the Citadel out
I had to find the passage back
or we'd be irradiated throughout
"Relax" said the forumites
"We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!"
