ist just that lately I hav entered some pages and pop ups apear and I am using firerox
but isnt suposed firefox block pop ups?

The bigger FF grows the more pop up's and shit of that nature will happen.

I only go to like 5 websites ever so I don't get that

While using firefox people have stopped using ad-aware type clients. It turns out that some will seep through (once in a while u might use internet explorer) and they will infect firefox.

They go up in tabs for me. >.<

It's annoying because I have to change to that tab before I can close it.

They do pop under now I think about it :O Its always the ones saying I've won a prize as well.

Its a new type of pop-under thats getting past the blocker.

I suggest getting the latest update for FF, I think that fixes it.
Otherwise, use the Adblock extension

Is the middle-click to close tabs thing an extension or an option (I'm too lazy to look on my own FF)? Either way that's what I use to close tabs without first switching to them.

Its not an extension; middle clicking a tab will close it without "focusing" it

Discussion on internet advertisement message boards reveals that code has been developed to pop-under adverts that can't pop-up because of browser blocking. We are expecting to see an increased number of pop-unders over the next few weeks, as browser programmers play catch-up.

Some big name sites continue to encourage the use of pop unders. So it's really the publishers pandering to the advertisers that are to blame. It was ever thus.
FF's own popularity will make it end up just like IE.

for every ad, theres a way around it! especially when you have a massive open source developer base like FF does :naughty:

Its the computing power of billions of nerds on their beowolf clusters! Its like the "infinite number of monkeys" thing! (which is better than the 100 or so monkeys that must be coding IE :p)

/me is a FF zealot :p

Man, I must be the only person that has both FF and IE, but prefers IE.
Weird, eh? :p

If that's so then why is there pop-ups all of a sudden?Which everyone suspects to grow.

Doesn't matter if it's open source or not.

It's logic...the bigger something becomes the bigger the target and more people shoot at it.

no such problems here...although i only really visit a handful of sites which all seem to be reliable.

Add the offending sites to your hosts file

add the address to adblock

improve your adblock filter list http://www.geocities.com/pierceive/adblock/

turn off javascript as a last resort.

Set things up right and FF doesn't get bothered by even a fraction of what appears on IE.

Ok we've been through this before my friend.

I haven't got any pop-ups/ad-ware/spyware or any of that shit...so I don't see the problem.

Edit: Or was you quoting someone else and accidently quoted me?

No I meant to quote you, you seem to be the one having a problem with pop-ups :) or atleast the one going on about them :)

Oh no problems what so ever...I'm just stating a fact.

Bigger something gets the bigger the target...simple.

I have never recieved a popup with FF EVER. I am being serious and truthful. There has never been a popup that has came out of my FF.

Pff problems with ads? Firefox is teh sucky..
/me pats maxthon

It's only really javascript thats the problem. Not as easy to fix as the other things, FF being built up from scratch to be able to simply ignore things being opened.

Those are the only popups I've had yet with FF, and only very recently, and before the more recent FF update. the popups and popunders and flash ads and hidden browser windows and hidden browser windows eating up 100% cpu time, and the kind that wont be closed, or the popup on close or open, the hidden installing of files etc. and so on. Not had none of that since getting FF. Only time since I got it that I've had an issue was, unsurprisingly with MS WMP9 and rogue licences.

Anyway I'm not entering into some my browser is better than yours argument. We both know FF is better than yours anyway ;)

Everyone start claiming your using Mac's, those poor sods wouldn't know how to protect themselves, we can wipe out Mac users and Mac's alike with tons of spyware and trojans and other nasty crap while we're left alone :E

I want to use a mac sometime and see what OS X is truely like.Hell I wish apple would make OS X for x86... :(

(Also FF sucks.):p

Also on a serious note...Be happy guys...your beloved browser hit 50 million downloads yesterday.

he uses IE for some odd reason,

thx for the adblock extra list though :)

Yes...because I found FF and opera to be just not worth the download and time in my opinion.

I guess it's all personal preference...IE works for me...I haven't got any pop-ups/spyware/ad-ware yet and the tabbed browsing thing is just personal preference.I do want to try Safari tho...

/me shrugs

once you switch you'll never go back....
I did switch before.Like I said...I downloaded opera and ff to try them out for a few days.

I ended up switching back to IE...Now I want to try safari (even tho it's only on OS X :().

Thats odd though the download time is very small and there are loads of extra features....however I still like maxthon more. IE based browsers= IE but more basically so your always better then IE, you can't lose really

Just mouse3-click on the tab.

You either
1. Have javascript turned off
2. never visit the websites that have pop(ups, unders, whatever, still a pop-up)ups, or
3. You have the super-secret Überfox browser that only the most elite members of society that are all part of the same dark cult are able to download and use. Perhaps the fact that I even mentioned it means my days are numbered...nice knowing everyone.

haha no popup goes past opera blocker :hmph:

ya but some sites dont work with opera. Most importantly, Gmail. and some others i noticed.

I get ones that are actual pop ups and the ones that appear on the actual page, they're annoying as ****. I've seen ones that don't even give me the option to close them :\

The popups are because some clever sites are using javascript/flash to open windows, and firefox only blocks popups from HTML atm, but supposed to be fixed soon.

some sites don`t work with opera while some others don`t work with firefox (<- and they`re more than opera`s). Thats because those sites are full of errors. Check them with the w3 validator and you`ll see what i mean.

Also, gmail works fine with opera. There is nothing special with gmail that a browser cannot support. Its like opera paid google to make gmail not work with opera so they can introduce it as a new feature on version 8.0 and force people to upgrade.
To prove that: Gmail wasn`t working with opera version 7.54 (the last version before 8.00) so when opera 8.00 was released one of the new features was that it "Supports GMail". The strange thing is that when opera 8.00 was released GMail started immediately working w\ version 7.54 too. See?
