I've *Only just* bought Oblivion

I made a ton of mods for this, like new monsters, new effects, all new sounds, and some clothes, including a see-through bikini for the female characters. :naughty: PFS.

Unfortunately, I don't have internet at home right now.

One day...

Back to work. CYA

They're still not super-sharp, but the pea soup effect is completely gone.
Pea soup effect? Is that the same as the 'pepper' effect in distant textures that appears 'dotted'?

I'm a Morrowind freak, mod for it, play it, love it.

Buy Morrowind, it has better everything (except graphics, but Oblivions aren't really that good, too shiny and bubble-y in my opinion). I like everything in Morrowind better then Oblivion. Even the combat (what's the point of a weapons skill if you can hit every time? It's pointless to have a weapon skill in Oblivion..). Morrowind had better everything. Period.

Plus there are more mods, and with mods in your Morrowind it makes it a bajillion times better.

F*** Oblivion, yay Morrowind. Stupid Bethesda - they ruined ES series.

Actually in this one, weapon skills let you do more damage (stupid) and maneuvers.

It's still gay.. Higher weapon skill should mean better maneuverability, not more damage.. If the best swordsman stabbed you, it would do the exact same "damage" as if I stabbed you, however the swordsman may stab you in a certain place, or in a certain way (because he has more knowledge in the weapon then I do), resulting in more hits, not just damage.. If a bowman and a swordsman fought with swords he'd own the bowman because he knows about it, but if they both had bows, who'd win? The swordsman may not even be able to shoot the bow, let alone hit anyone with it.. They didn't do it perfect in Morrowind, but in my opinion, it was alot better then in Oblivion.

Morrowind's combat was the only thing keeping me from enjoying it tbh.

I installed this today (before reading this thread).

It needs a frikken lot of mods' to make it playable, Qarls texture packs are brilliant, it still looks a really nice game, interiors especially the environment is kinda' lacking at a distance.

The gameplay, hmm, feels empty, I insanely hate the main quest ("FFS ANOTHER Oblivion gate to close!!" comes to mind) I just throw that damn necklace in the water at the start then do side quests. Pissing about and "role playing" is the only thing you can really do but quickly gets boring.

Morrowind was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better. Really liked that. Honestly though I don't see any improvements Oblivion has over it?

There is a mod that makes the world less empty, with travelers and stuff, but it's not well done.

Just got Oblivion working the way it should myself. After hours of tweaking, it's finally playable. Sorta. I'm playing it without Qarl's Texture Pack because of my system's lack of VRAM, it still looks good to me though, with the occasional slowdown every now and then. Especially if you pop in Deus Ex:Invisible War (or the first Deus Ex for that matter) first then Oblivion. You'll be much more appreciative of the lower res textures in Oblivion if one looks at it from that perspective. My only gripe is that everyone in the overworld just seems to want to rip your face off. Where are the traveling non-warrior merchants and pilgrims? I heard earlier that there was a mod to remedy this issue. Also, I made a Breton race warrior and he looks alot fatter than he did during the customization screen. I wasn't too happy with this. Is there anywhere to customize the character again after leaving the sewers? Also, anyone mind filling me in and telling me where I can get the legitimate overworld population (or whatever it's called) mod from? Thanks in advance.

Meh, tried this a while back and just could not get into it at all.

Sucks, because I'm looking for a good RPG at the moment. I may turn to NWN/(2) (Bleh D&D rules) if I can't find one soon.

Ah yes DnD CRPG's. Pitty I cannot play them with the AI well enough :|

I just cannot get into the DnD stuff for the life of me... I'll give NWN another shot, as thankfully my brother and I's collections of them were in order! We have three complete sets of NWN1 and expacks because of their ridiculous security... Dragon Age better not be the same way or I'll be pissed. (Assuming it is good)

I like the games, in general, but I dunno what it is that keeps me from getting involved in the plot, and out of the this-is-really-repetitive-combat feeling.

There was so much wrong with Oblivion . . . all they had to do was make a new story and update the graphics / engine and we're good to go.

I think can all agree the new combat mechanics/creature leveling/skill system is really poor and they should have stuck with Morrowind's system.

Generally, yeah. I do like Oblivions block system WAY better.

Geez, when Oblivion was first released and we had an Oblivion forum and everything...
Seemed everybody loved the game.

Looks like that's not the case any more.

I fell in love with the game the moment I emerged from the sewer, and I was absolutely awe-struck. Sadly, that didn't last long.

Yeah that was stunning.
But later you realise that its just a mask.

I 'tried' the game a while back but it ran like crap on my system so I never bothered with it again.
I think it's down to $20/$30 now, so I'll probably pick it up later on in the week.

Yeah, and whenever I said the game was bad, people jumped on me and tried to strangle me.

Good times.

Wow, this is a fascinating phenomenon. When Oblivion was out everyone described it as a miraculous game, stunning, awesome, best RPG ever and so on. Now look at all the unhappy people. Maybe next year Bioshock and other hyped games will share the same destiny ;)

On reflection I still think Oblivion was a pretty good game. Not what many of us were hoping for, but fun nonetheless. Joining the assassins guild was one of the highlights of my gaming year. Getting to do it as a vampire made it all the sweeter :)

It was though,

The thing is, Oblivion is a great game, for 10-20 virgin hours then it dies.

Well yeah it did have it fun moments like any other game, but there could have been a lot of changes made. Not even big ones just minor things with how everything worked. The hype machine for this game was charging along for this one though. The amount of bullshit their PR department spewed makes me sick thinking about it. I'm not sure how many hours I've clocked in Oblivion but I'll use Xfire as an estimate. Considering I no longer use Xfire it's a very rough estimate. 4th most played game on my page at 68 hours, meh. Gothic 3 at 41 hours I need to finish that game sometime.

68 hours isn't bad money's worth at all! I probably put around 30 in and didn't stop untill I got bored, which was plenty.

If someone was waiting for an absolute classic with enough depth to keep them busy for years then I can see why they would be disappointed, or perhaps if they were fans of the series and wanted more of the same, but I suspect the majority of people had a fun time sneaking about caves, hitting goblins and seeing the sights. I liked becoming a champ in the arena and finishing the various guild quests. I liked having a lady on each city to feed upon at night :). Infact, there was enough to do that my entire playtime rarely involved the main quest.

There's more that deserves praise than criticism with Oblivion, despite there being obvious areas that could have been improved.

Imagine Oblivion, or something similar, with co-op. Being able to tackle huge dragons with a bunch of mates. It'd be awesome, like WoW but with combat that is actually fun.

I bought Oblivion on day #1 and loved it for sometime. Of course now I'd have to go trawling through dozens of mods to liven up the experience. Which can be considered a good thing that you can actually liven up the game at all. Third party fan made content is what drives both Morrowind and Oblivion to become much more awesome than the stock game.

I do agree with you on co-op. Open ended world where you can run around and complete various tasks which require a tad bit of teamwork to get done. None of this MMO nonsense, just a casual game you can play with a few good mates.

PC needs MOAR CO OP. :(

I still want to know why the Empire wasn't Roman...
