Japanese Manga

I'm sorry Uriel, I posted that because your post annoyed me and I just did it because I was sick of it, but now I'm over it and I don't really care, but still if you could try not to stomp on other people's likes or hobbies, that'd be great.

Also the art styles do differ but sometimes (most of the time) it's more subtle than picking out the differences in Western art. I know reading comics it's usually a lot easier to see the differences between artstyles, say for example the difference between Madureira and Ramos or Capullo and McFarlane. With manga unless the artist has a very distinct style, the principles of the art are very structured due to their culture (that is, having grown up viewing that artstyle with the big eyes and the tiny mouths and noses, etc.) so it's harder to tell the difference. But I mean you can pick out the wide differences between say Takahashi (Ranma) and Tite (Bleach) or Toriyama (DBZ) and Obata (Death Note).

Yeah it has to be very different for you to notice..like Blame! for example

Lot more detailed than lol lines big eyes and a smile >_> Not to mention in this one everyone has normal hair.

No worries
I have a hostile sense of humor, chances are if I'm making fun of you, I like you.

Hehe, the same goes with teasing girls....cept my sis.

Technically his half-sister.

Through no fault of my own, of course!

Really I didn't know that, but it sure is a relief that he didn't intend for Gohan to get so gay during his teen years.
Just realized what I typed, I meant Frieza saga. Right at the end where Goku goes super saiyan and kills Frieza, that was supposed to be the end. Even Cell was filler (although it was my favorite arc).

No offense, but manga sucks as much a L-Drama :(

I like manga. Alot of it is very very samey, from the art style to the reccuring character types to the neverending plots, but some of it is worthwhile.

Also, Blame! is my god.

The only anime I think I ever liked was DBZ, and even there I didn't really like the drawing style.
I just liked the idea that there's no limit to how strong you can get.

Bright lights and golden hair FTW!!

IT'S OVER NINE- you know what, it's done.

Manga/Anime is, like, you know, books or TV shows. Sure there are conventions within them, but, you know, they're different.

I'm sorta half-shocked at the amount of people here who loathe manga. How can you loathe manga? It's like loathing reading.

I'll shut up now.

PS: Reading: Nothing really. Azumanga Diaoh, Tsubasa: Resovoir Chronicles, XXXHolic - not much recently (i'd like to take a look at Chobits). Oh, yes! Ranma 1/2. God that's funny. Watching... well, because Malaysia's Astro, the local equivilent of Foxtel, has a dedicated anime channel (WHY DON'T YOU HAVE ONE FOXTELLLL??????) Alice Academy (weird, got potential but weird still) and Gokusen. And Samura 7. Want more of that.

you guys should watch/read akira...that is the weirdest anime of all. not to mention it;'s pretty freaking bad ass.

Semi-QFT @ Jintor. It's not quite the same bag as dismissing something like reading, but it is making a pretty broad judgement. It is kind of a culture unto itself though, and it doesn't appeal to everyone - more than that though there's something to it that deters alot of people, and I can kind of notice it too. It's a bit... weird. Or actually a better word would be foreign. Which... well, it kind of is... but you get my jist!

Edit - Hell yeah @ AKIRA, the movie is a goddamn work of art, especially for it's time. For me it's kind of like the Terminator 2 of anime, surpasses alot of newer stuff using old effects. Wasn't it one of the last of it's kind to animate using proper cels and stuff? Something like that. Really should hunt down the manga too and figure out what the hell was going on :P

Bad^Hat...the manga is so good. Theres far more content (obviously lol) and each volume is the size of a phonebook lol! There are 6 in total. There is way more information on Akira and he even teams up with Tetsuo!!! :D

I wanna make gay love to you!<3

Aww :D <3

Some of my favorite animes are as follows. *I don't read Manga, sorry guys :(*

Scrapped Princess
Full Metal Alchemist
DBZ was OK for a while, got old after the Cell Saga though...why it took that long? I dunno actually...
Akira
Ninja Scroll
Princess Mononoke
Gundam Wing
Gundam 08th MS Team
FLCL
Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star *Oh god, I forgot how much I loved this show. I gotta watch it now.*

That's all I can think of off the top of my head though, there are more..but those are some of the higher class animes I've seen..

Exactly. I've seen loads of the stuff, and I like only a small fraction and love only a select few. Come to that, there's only a minority of series I like mentioned in this thread, and meaning no offense, I wouldn't touch many of them with a cosmic barge pole whilst in orbit around Alpha Centurai. Not mentioning names... except Chobits. Because the manga sub-genre wherein boys who find the 'servile, perfect wife of their dreams' freaks me out. Especially when they're robot girls who look like 8 year olds.

I think the biggest problem with Anime/Manga, is that it's grown outside of Japan out of a very limited selection of titles aimed at a 'teenage male' demographic (take the first two titles to gain real momentum in the US and UK: Ghost in the Shell and Akira. Very much along the lines of traditional western graphic novels). So there's this perception that it's all tits and violence, when the titles now available are becoming far more varied.

A few personal faves:
Manga: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Fruits Basket, Ecole du Ciel, Please Save My Earth, Yotsuba&
Films: Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, Kiki's Delivery Service, Tokyo Godfathers, Whisper of the Heart.
Series: Zeta Gundam, Escaflowne, Paranoia Agent, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, 'Upsidy Down A' Gundam

If you liked those anime you'd probably like quite a few manga, I recommend starting with the Cowboy Bebop manga, it's only 5 volumes and the storyline is a bit different on two of them (the Shooting Star one). All of them have a story (episode) the anime never did.

I just watched Chobits Ep.4 and I nearly died from rolling on the ground laughing my head off.

Anyway...., I hate DBZ, most likely because of the style and inane fighting scenes.

Gotta try all the other ones....

Problem with Cowboy Bebop as a manga is that it really really needs music for it. Cowboy Bebop without music is... well, it's not the same.

Cowboy Bebop with music is one of the best, possibly the best anime I've ever seen.

/EDIT It's definantly the most stylishly entertaining.

Jintor: Turn the stereo on with CB soundtracks :P
Azner: I saw that one fox kids once I was like hmmm...and ended up watching King of Bandits: Jing (It's surreal but entertaining to the least)

I saw the oringinal japanese version not the 4kids tv fox dubbed one. Its quite a nice show though.

*sigh*

There are good manga's out there, and there are bad ones. Good Anime's, and bad ones.

I like anima and manga; they are good, entertaining, and the ones I watch have good storylines and action.

On that note, <3 anima and manga.

I hate manga. Whoever invented it should be shot.

WHOEVER INVENTED BOOKS SHOULD BE SHOT!!!!!11!1!!!1!

j/king. I love books. But I don't love all books. Some books are shit. And it is the same with manga.

Btw, Digimon was probably the only anime that survived Corperate American Translation by Foxkids midway intact, and got a better soundtrack to boot. Amazing.

I remenber I watched the movie of the season 1 or something like that,it was pretty cool and well done compared to the series, and involved nuclear missiles and all,my brother says the first one was the best cuz the kids where lost in the digiworld and that added coolnes not like in the second where they could travel from real world to digi world in a instant

No, most manga is shit. Now, I could be all politically correct and say 'I dislike a lot of manga/anime bar a select few' but I like to be short and just say 'manga/anime is shit'. I hate anime. I loathe anime. I'm sick of boob grabbing jokes, pointless sweatdrops on people's faces, awkward sexual situations and the artists' obsession with women looking like 8 year olds with enormous boobs. Now, there's some genuinely funny and good anime, but I think the generalisation of 'anime is shit' is quite justified.

Most films/books/TV shows are shit, what the hell is your point. Most of anything is shit.

Then look at the anime that doesn't have that shit.

Also, this is a thread about manga, not anime :p
