Ok, he didnt update the link for the new version, which has a readMe in it:

http://www.pcgamemods.com/8839/
Well, actually he did and the readme tells me nothing of why HL2 tells me there is no such weapon when I type give weapon_physgun

Do you have a better readme than me?

i don't understand what is so hard about posting a brief step by step explanation of what you did to get this to work. thanks a lot guys.

i cant get it to work either, i downloaded the "fixed" version....

also for me it said maplist.txt didnt exist, so i couldnt start a game, i tried dumping it right into my original hl2 game, and it didnt work

If thats the fixed version you downloaded, and installed it properly, according to the ReadMe, then you should have no problem doing "give weapon_physgun".

If you are having problems, then obviously you should reinstall, making sure that you extract it into the "half-life 2" folder and not the "hl2" folder.

EDIT: Also, yes, there is no maplist. You have to load one manualy by using the "map" command.

what he said

Having trouble. I originally already had a shortcut to Hl2 on my desktop, and I added the launch parameters, and unzipped all the files to the folder with the executable. So I followed the rules. So I launch the game, use sv_cheats 1, and weapon_physgun: nothing happens.

I figured maybe I need to remake a new shortcut, so I deleted the one I had on my desktop, when to the executable folder, and remade a new shotcut. I guess this was a bad idea because now I can't even launch the game, and it says it can't find the Steam.dll.

Anyone know what I did wrong, and what I need to do?

I run the mod just fine thanks. But when I go to give myself the phys gun it tells me it's a NULL ent.

Go type "give weapon_pencil" and you'll see the error I get.

Everyone's will say maplist.txt doesn't work (I'm presuming you're talking about a console error rather than a crash and a pop up), only way to play with the physgun is to load a map manually (i.e., type maps * into the console and choose one of those listed by typing map whichevermapitis).

If you can't get it to work, reinstalling is your only option... ensure your jbmod is in your half-life 2 folder, and add -game jbmod to a HL2 shortcut to fire it up. If it still doesn't function properly, beats me what the problem is...

I think I know what you did wrong, you took the files out of the folder jbmod and re-wrote over your files; when you should have just plopped the folder named jbmod next to the executable.

Yeah, I get what your saying.
Ok, in the shortcut to the game, did you put "-game jbmod" next to the "Target" directory?
It should look something like this:
C:\Steam\Steam.exe -game jbmod

i extracted it to the correct folder, not working

we need a ****ing installer and uI, some people dont know all this shit

EDIT: i put "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -game jbmod in my shortcut, is this right?

I guess I'll make a little webpage with pictures for all the people who don't know the basics...
Give me about 20min.

I think you're not understanding the problem, I run the mod just fine, I get into HL2 and you can't start or load a game, you have to do a mapchange; which I do, and then I type give weapon_physgun and am told there is no such weapon.

The person I asked earlier said he had the same problem but it cleared up, I just want to know if he did anything different.

yup

Well, if you've extracted the .zip so that everything is in your e-mail/half-life 2/ folder, everything should work as long as you use the shortcut...

Quick way to make ensure your shortcut works- right click on desktop, select "new" > "shortcut", then paste this into the location space and click next:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -game jbmod

Make sure you don't have a jbmod folder in your jbmod folder: everything in the zip already has a location defined and a working folder setup, so just "select all" and extract to the half-life 2 folder. If it still doesn't work, I honestly don't know what's gone wrong.

I installed the mod while Steam was running and it didn't work, but after restarting my computer and Steam it accepted the give weapon_physgun command.

Thats what I did, I just unzipped the folder to the exe. directory, I didn't overwrite anything.

I can still play the game, but not from a shortcut. Which is apparently the only way to get this to work.

It says it cannot be found, and I don't have a jbmod folder in the jbmod folder.

It says Steam cannot be found? Wah? Where do you have Steam installed to?

My HL2 is arranged as shown in the attatched image: everything you see in the jbmod folder should be there, and the jbmod folder should be positioned as shown.

ok got it working, no thanks to anyone here.

1. extract files *i used winzip's "extract files..." option* to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\username\half-life 2

2. create a shortcut of the hl2.exe to the desktop. right click it, choose properties, and make sure the target line reads as follows:

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -game jbmod

3. type in console-

sv_cheats 1
map d1_town_01 (personal preference here)
give weapon_physgun

ok, [MoFo]
That's exactly what they've SAID you were supposed to do. If you read the whole conversation, you'd know. I believe it's even on the first page. And, seriously, why'd you quote yourself, and respond to it in third person?

...are you insane PoPnYaH? Seriously, are you?

Because that's precisely what everyone has said time and time again. The current problem is that some people- who managed to install by themselves- can't make the "give" command reward them with the physgun for some reason.

Finally got it fixed and working. Though, I'm a little disappointed, as theres not a lot that seems to want to weld together.

Example: Got two sawblades welded together, when I tried to get a third, it just wouldn't do it. Also tried paintcans, gas cans, tables, barely anything worked. *shrug*, still really awesome though.

is there a maplist.txt in hl2 somewhere that we can copy in? i dont know all the map names

To list all the map names within the physgun mod just type "maps *" into the console. Really helps matters if, like me, you keep forgetting how they're labelled.

I remember doing this in the leak:

Hop on top of something, then, point down at it and use the Primary Fire on the physgun. Rull back the mousewheel, and you'll start flying on the thing ur standing on.

lol

I remember doing that too! Does it work still?

Wont work for me. I load it up like the directions say, and no physgun. Sv_cheats is set too 1, and give weapon_physgun wont work. :/

Awesome! I loved flying higher and higher and higher, and then suddenly I'd slip off of the wood, or whatever, and I'd fall and fall and fall and then...*PLOP!*

Good times, good times...

wow, they should have left this weapon or whatever you want to call it in the game. It is so fun building stuff. We should start a pimp-my ride type thing where you decorate the car with what every you can find.

?

Anyone else find the secondary fire (shooting out the globs) ceases to work after a while for no apparent reason?

You registered DEC 2004... so today and you are already talking shit? Some of us have been here for over a year and get sick of leading the less informed by the hand. But your post is a good guide for others.. Stop throwing your hands up and expecting someone here to answer all your questions. Play around and figure it out yourself and contribute to others.

Welcome :)

You do have limited ammo.

Speaking of that, I tried to edit the ammount of ammo that it gives you (even though I have no idea how to mod).
I found the script file for the gun, which is what I assume to be all the info for the gun that the game uses (it's in C:\Steam\SteamApps\username\half-life 2\jbmod\scripts )

I tried changing clip_size, clip2_size, and default_clip, but nothing in-game changes.

Anyone else know how to mod guns?

haha this is a blast... somebody really needs to make a junkyard wars map :-P

Yes.

Although, everything stops working for me for no apparent reason after some point, I don't think it likes me :(
