What's your occupation?

I'm currently a freelance welder, I don't really work for any one company... but I always have an ad in the paper.
So, I basically get calls every day, gets irritating but the pay most of the time is great.
Usually it's about $15 an hour.

Tech Support for a product we supply
$12/hr

I have a glorious part time job. Kitchen assistant at an Old People's Home. Basically I clean all the dishes, wipe down the surfaces, sweep the floor and empty the bins at meal times. A shift is 1.75 hours, which with my current pay nets me ?10.40 It's so shit, and so are the staff, so I enjoy bitching about them in my head and ignoring what they say, instead replacing it with the appropriate noise the animal they look like would make :)

I'm a chemist working at physical vapor deposition section for semiconductor company.

I work in a majour international superstore chain petrol station. It's incredably shit, I get 5:92GBP an hour on Tuesday friday and saturday nights.

The most fun I have is IDing chavs for rolling papers.

I had to do a lecture about PVD layers to pass the subject at the university. Interesting technology.

I'm still a student.

Business Intelligence Specialist

$42k a year

It's actually not too bad at all. The days go by very quickly (I say this as I slack off and browse the Internet, but w/e. I work hard!)

I'd like to do something like that, what did you have to study to get where you are?

Former intern IT technician for a non-profit child counseling organization, former college student, soon-to-be sailor.

Right now, blissfully unemployed for the next two months as I prepare myself for the NAVY. Woo-hoo! :D

getting a Job around here is ****ing impossible.

I'm at college at them moment but I that when I leave (hopefully with qualifications in childcare) I can join the business called Party Crew who plan childrens' parties. There aren't a lot of childrens' party organisers so until i can set up my own business I'll join one that alreadt exists.

Why don't you get a job shearing Llamas? :)

Where do you live? In the particular part of Florida where I'm from, unless you want to be a hotel bellhop, or a restaurant frycook, the job outlook is pretty bleak.

The only decent paying jobs around here are either in the medical field, or in the department of corrections, (prison guards) and I care for neither.

It pretty much sucks here too. That's why I have to move if I want to survive in the IT field. To be more specific, network programming.

I took two years of a general college IT program. First year was common year, second year I specialized in Database Administration.

Alarm dispatcher for an independent monitoring station, not like ADT or one of those big ones that have the dumb commercials. But what we do is essentially the same. "Hi, your alarm just went off, is everything okay?"
Good job, good boss, good coworkers, $12/h CAD (although I'll be asking for a raise before heading back to school in September when I'll just working weekends)

haha I get a kick out of the ADT commercials. "State of the Art Monitoring Centre" that looks like it belongs on the Starship Enterprise. I call BS on that every time I see it.

Ramp Agent for PTIA, make only $9/hr sadly :(

Once the company gets back with the union should be about $15-16

Nothing currently. I applied for a summer job in Tesco but I haven't got an answer back.

Landscaping. I like it quite a bit, all mexican jokes aside.

Part time English teacher when I'm not a full time student.

$10-15 Per hour depending on whether I'm working at a tutorial center or as a private tutor.

I'm a student primarily but I'm working at a LAN center this summer for some bank. The pay is shit but it's the easiest, most laid-back job in the world. Usually.

Student until a week tomorrow, at which point I am done forever.

Otherwise, I work at the local cinema. I only get ?5.14 an hour but I get to see free films whenever I want, see new films a couple of days before they come out, get free food when the managers aren't looking and the people there are good fun.

When September rolls around and most of my friends go off to Uni I am going to start there full time and maybe apply to be a staff supervisor (which brings increased pay) so that I can raise enough money so that I can live happily for a bit while struggling in the film industry.

I make $9.00 an hour.

I bag groceries and get the carts in the parking lot. It sucks ass, but atleast I get payed.

I'm a student but this summer I'll be working in retail. Maplin last holiday, probably WH Smiths this one.

In the past I've worked as a lifeguard and a swimming instructor, and I might do that again.

I just applied again to Vizual F/X Studios (new MMO game company), hopefully my friends in there (or even better, my portfolio) can get me a job there.

Can't you charge more than that since it's a specialist occupation?

Plumbers here get ?30+ per hour ($60).

Freelancers always make a lot of money. You should be charging at least 20 bucks an hour, unless there happen to be a lot of welders with no jobs in your area..

Im currently unemployed, so im gonna stop taking showers, eat leftovers and start pick up some cans in my shoping cart.
Im guessing i'll do great.
Won't be so hard to find a new job thou.
As i was, the carpenter

I just spent the past hour applying for jobs by email that I am underqualified for - legal seceratry etc.

Once you get in, you and your friends need to help ME get a job there in a few years.

I will, whether that's a euphemism or not.

Student for one more year. I currently work part-time at Sainsbury's (supermarket) for just under 6 pounds an hour.

If I was getting paid I would also call myself a freelance games journo :p

Lucid, I thought you were going into the Marines as well? I'm a welder too anyways. :farmer: I work over at Chemineer. We weld incredibly massive heat exchangers and mixing tanks that weigh at least 5 tons and cost over half a million. We need one more laborer, and 3 more welders as well. We got 14 heat exchangers coming up this Summer and will open the shop 24/6 as well. We are trying to get as many done by Christmas. Payed college, all benefits, $16.50 an hour. :naughty: Hint, hint Lucid. Btw there is a bunch of Cambodians who work there as it's close to crack heaven Lowell. MA is another crappy place overall and the job market is bleak. Especially for welders.

I might get a job this summer to have some extra spending money. My choices around town are: Winn Dixie (supermarket), Walmart, Gamestop, Target, Publix (supermarket), and various restaurants.

Currently serving in the US Navy as an FC(Fire Controlman) Computer Peripheral Technician with over a year in. I'm not paid by the hour, but I'll say that I live very comfortably for what I do. Medical, dental, housing, meal, and other benefits are also a big plus. Not to mention the Montgomery GI Bill. :cheese:
