John Stewart covers SOPA

I stream it perfectly well from way over here.

Stewart is a very smart man by all accounts, but not a very funny one (or maybe shitty writers are to blame). I wish he would take the role of a proper journalist instead of trying to act like a clown.

At times, I agree, but he's pretty quick to point out when/if you compliment him that he has a team of writers who make stuff up for him. Otherwise, it tends to show when he's debating anyone that he not only reads the books they bring on his show (with one infamous exception he actually apologized for within the week), but also does research into the topics he discusses in general. By all accounts, I agree, except that him acting like a clown actually leads to the lowest common denominator gaining some degree of information compared to the rest of the tripe on television these days.

Him and Colbert, wouldn't be nearly as popular if they acted like "serious" journalists.

He can be quite funny. Blame it on your Swedishness!

People always criticize talk show hosts for being unfunny, they never seem to realise that they're up there 4-5 nights a week. Jokes are gonna get stale from time to time. I think John handles it pretty well.

The correspondents are usually wildly unfunny though. :v

I dunno. I've always liked John Oliver, Samantha Bee and Wyatt Cenac's ability to make people say some of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

You guys haven't watched enough John Stewart, he has his moments. Bad^Hat makes a good point: 5 nights a week makes it hard to constantly make amazing zingers. When John or Colbert are on, though, they are ON.

Stop saying John! The only John on The Daily Show is John Oliver!

It's Jon!

That's weird, I actually had Jon typed in before but "corrected" myself before posting. :p Edit: Also you forgot about John Hodgman.~

And yeah actually the correspondents are usually much funnier when they're interviewing people, I just think the sketches they do by themselves or with Jon fall flat most of the time.

Oh yeah I guess I should say something about the actual topic. I mean... it's a pretty good jab at the bill, but he didn't really summarize it very well. But then I guess he was just trying to give an impression of what the bill stood for, which would make people look into for themselves... hopefully... maybe. In any case it's nice that it got some more recognition.
