IBL :)

This thread should win the "most useless thread ever" award. Reported.

I don't want to join... I trust Valve, I just think they have a pretty poor PR staff...

Fair enough, still it'd be nice to get a feel for the level of trust in the comunity.

No sorry, I'm pretty tied up to my Area 51-club, my 'the Government is run by aliens' club my 'Hitler was a US conspiracy' club and my Tin Foil hay club. Those take a lot of hours you know, whining how bad the world is and stuff, while I could possibly use that time to get a life and all.... just maybe.

I trust valve.

Valve love their fans and the fans love valve in return.

It's a computer game company...why would anyone "not trust" them? Because they've delayed a computer game? Wow. That's kinda sad really.

:(

I'm not big on the whole "Anti-Valve" thing, but they're human beings, and I don't trust human beings. I'll join your club!

I trust whatever VIVENDI says. So as far as I'm concerned, it's still April 2004 until THEY say so.

The point isn't lack of trust because they've delayed the game its the way they've handled it they have repeatedly issued statements that don't fit with the facts.

I don't trust any companies...especially those fronted by sinister-looking penguins.

Oooh...Ooooh...Ooooh...I've joined your club...do I get a teeshirt or something for joining? :)

I tend not to trust businesses in general. To much profit motivation.

My question is, for the people who trust Valve, what would it take for you to distrust Valve?

Do i trust Valve?

*considers*

-Saying the game would be released on Sept 30th with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY
-Saying Condition-Zero went gold twice, still hasn't been released.
-Not understanding the general human concept of "soon" (refer to the SDK situation)
-Killing my frames per second in Day of Defeat by adding POINTLESS enhancements. The game still looks like utter crap compared to Red Orchestra and other modern games. Pointless...pointless graphical enhancements. Pointless... That really, really, schniznits me right off.

Valve rarely tell us what's going on with release dates and when they do they stuff it up badly! I don't know whether they should just shut up or keep lieing to us?

Its their game, they can take as long as they want. The only way I won't trust Valve is if HL2 ends up being a mediocer game, but of course the chances of that are extremelly low.

They aren't delaying the game because they want to see us squirm, that would be pure stupidity on their part. If they don't give us a definite release date then it most likely means that they themselves don't have a definite release date.

People just need to stop and think about the reasons why Valve has been delaying the game and the reasons why the release dates given have been wrong. Don't just assume that they are untrustworthy.

Why the hell wouldnt I trust Valve? I mean, they gave us this frustrating "distributed file system" that few people wanted, and even fewer like (and it seems, even fewer can even get working). And it's being forced upon us come HL2. They told us time and time again "September 30. Yep, thats the date, mark your calenders because that's when it's coming out folks! They assured us Condition Zero would be out November. It's gone gold, they said. Still no word on what the hell happened to that. But hell, at least we had Half Life 2 slated for a holiday release, sweet! Oh crap, what the hell happened there?

1: It was NEVER a certainty, NEVER EVER. Gabe even said in a video interview when he was asked 'will you promise the game releases this year?' and he said 'I promise it's gonna be a great game, but if we need more time, there is no doubt we'll take that time to make the game what we think it ought to be'
And bullshit like you're telling now, is the reason we don't get a new date because they don't want to piss off the whole community like this again.
2: CZ was finished months ago, just for some reason it's just not released yet, probably more publisher issues than Valve's.
3: The business world works a lot more complicated than you think, a lot of shit can happen. And it's not like they're obligated to give you that SDK.
4: I have no idea what you're talking about, DoD runs smoothly.

I agree with most of your post, PvtRyan, but, 6 days before September 30th VALVe WAS saying "It'll be tight.. but we should make it"

Depends on the definiton of trust. I'm a pretty paranoid bastard as it is. Got no problem with Valve myself (although I really don't like Doug Lombardi at this point in time. I'd hardly call him a PR genius, but I suppose the blame behind the Sept 30th fiasco may have lain with the whole group).

Perhaps the sheer amount of money that HL produced made the team decide to choose hobby's in order to channel off what little excess HL2 allowed for... Gabe drew the fat straw and took up eating, while Mr. Lyingbastardi decided to take up lying. *collapses on floor, muttering bitter recriminations* :rolling:

I'd like to think the community as a whole can forgive a game and replace their trust in its developers if the final product is a masterpiece, even if it turns out late. Lets hope it lives up to the expectation...

i'm just sick of hearing ppl say how outdated it will be when it comes out, take a look at the first HL its graphics are crap compared to todays new games, but hundereds of thousands of ppl still play it,and i look at it this way:HL2 will have great AI,Great story, and the grphics will just be an added bonus.last time i bought a game for graphics it sucked.
