Idea: if a friend gets attacked by a headcrab, he will instantly get headcrabbed (attached to his/her head, struggle, die)
if YOU get attacked by a headcrab, the screen will go black and it will say, click fire to de-attach headcrab, and gordon will rip the headcrab off his head.

tell me what you think

Ummmm, idea for what? A mod? :O Why not just make a headcrab multiplayer mod where everybody is a headcrab (different classes, poison, fast, and normal headcrab) and have to run around and find host body to fight each other? :p

Not a bad idea actually. Admitted it's a bit Alien Predator 2 and such, but still not bad.

For instance. You have two teams set in a black-mesa type setting. You get the people, who have hardly any weapons and that (randomly) have to have specialities in order to use the weapons (1).
Then, you have the headcrabs. One person (If someone doesn't suggest they would like to be a headcrab) is randomly chosen to become a headcrab at the start. You can crawl through small spaces as a headcrab and you can see in the dark and such. Now you randomly get chosen to be a certain headcrab at the beginning (2).
Whenever you attack someone with a jump attack, and successfully attach, that person quickly loses health and they have to get a friend to shoot the headcrab off. If the survivor runs out of health, they become a zombie of the type the headcrab player was (3).
This sounds cool, and I wouldn't mind making it.

Anyway, that's just me ranting... ^_^ Also it's pretty much a "Zombie Panic" rippoff. I wouldn't mind making it, though.
 
now THAT is an excellent mod idea, although some would compare it to Natural Selection. Id guess it wouldnt be too difficult to make either (although i have no modding experience, just a guess).

Well my clan has a lot of excellent talent within it. I'm going to suggest this as a clan idea on our forums now.
Though, Credit would have to go to hunter22022 for the idea in the first place, and he might be able to do a bit of coordinating.

Edit: Oh, and I've never played Natural Selection. Is that what it's about? Hehe, I should really try that mod out.

BRAINWAVE (trust me, this doesnt happen often :sleep: )

if you remember, having a fast zombie scream in your ear while you were looking the bloody way scared you (it certainly bloody did me, i almost broke my mouse and keyboard as i slammed them on the table).

so, if you control a zombie, you should have some binds that allow your zombie to scream when you press them. imagine dropping from the ceiling on an unsuspecting guy, screaming, or running at someone making the 'rabid dog' noise. It would give you a slight adantage, in that when against the ai, you could exploit their unintelligence, but when against people controlled zombies, it would be different, scarier.
 
That would be the BEST MOD EVER!! Seriously, someone needs to make this.
 
Ok Cabbs, that's an idea. Like all players get a bind that plays one of their sounds. Fast zombies get that terrifying scream, normal zombies get that really annoying "Help me!" scream thing, and the poison zombies, well... if they don't say anything we'll have to make something up, eh? And the humans get like taunts, such as "Eat lead, zombie!" and "Nooo! We're all doomed!". Basically, I was thinking of ripping sounds from HL1 (Or just re-recording the same lines for better quality) and using them for the various character types.

Also, bvasgm, I'm giving the idea to my clan now. They should reply whether they want to make this later, but let me tell you, a lot of them are REALLY interested in the idea. And thank you for being interested in it also :). we already have a fan ^_^

Lol this isn't alien versus predator. For one, there will be no... uh... evolving mid-match. Also it'll be more like Zombie Panic than AvP, because it'll be more (losely put) realistic, in that you can't carry around insane amounts of ammo and weapons. Also, I think it'll be much better than AvP. Well, either way we'll see.
 
I hope it is much better than AvP, because i really liked the lifecycle verison.

P.S. AvP deathmatch wasn't lifecycle be default (dont think), at least that was just one of the many modes.

The ideas in this thread definatly lend themselves to drawing on the best bits of several of the AvP modes though.

Hmm. Ok. You're thinking of a small server, maybe 3 or 4 people playing, correct? that lends a chance that one headcrab will be the infamous poison headcrab (capable of taking players down to 1hp), and all the other players being scientists? Hmm.

Well, ok, this'll need some ironing out, but what about scientists carrying round some object that can maybe heal themselves? Say, an anti-venom to the Headcrabs poison.

And agreed, they are a little one-sided on that front. It'll all need to be sorted before we get everything together too.
 
are zombies and headcrabs one team and humans another? another question is, what will the respawning be like, at the moment it seems weighted towards the headcrabs but this looks like a great mod
 
Ok, to answer your questions, the headcrabs and zombies would all be one team against the humans. This'll probably be like a mission based mod, for instance trying to escape the resonance cascade incident at black mesa. It won't be a big deathmatch game, I guess.

The respawning, if mission based, would work on a checkpoint system. Say the scientists/barnies/whatever managed to open a door that led into the armoury. That would be known as a checkpoint, and then the enemies would spawn near that, probably (Depending on the end tactical advantage for either team) to an advantage over the humans, to keep them on their toes.

Also, levels will hopefully be littered with advantages for headcrabs (Small Vents, Cardboard boxes that you can hide in), and also advantages for humans (Being able to open up a huge mixing door in the floor that has lots of hazardous waste in it that headcrabs would die in, and be forced to find another route).

Also, if you remember the start of Half-life 1, you would have noticed one of those huge Yellow-machines. Well one personal idea I had was that Scientists could control them to stack objects up and block routes behind them.

Obviously none of this has been cleared by the startings of my mod team, but it shouldn't be too hard to implement.
 
Lurker-

The first black headcrab would 'control' the zombie and attack while 1-4 other players need to attach themselves to the zombie to 'activate' it. Then they can press the mouse1 button to be thrown at high speed towards people.

Sorta like a walking headcrab shooting zombie tank. :D
 
It all sounds nice....but is there anybody there to do it? :O I'm busy with my own mod at teh time. :p
 
sounds awesome, i would love to be a part of it but you guys don't look like you're going to need a modeler... eh, hollar if you need anything, i'll be keeping an eye on this.

This mod sounds amazing. Seriously, I have been waiting for a great well thought out mod for a long time...


One more idea, just a thought I have had....


Say, when a headcrab jumps to the enemy's head, the human character has a chance to shake off the headcrab, i.e. by clicking the left mouse button repeatedly. However, there'd be a bar, that slowly starts at mid-way and if it gets to the bottom, the headcrab takes over, and if the human player can click enough to get the bar to the top (I'm actually seeing this bar as laying horizontal, therefore, when I say bottom, I mean left, and when I say top, I mean right), then the human player is freed once more (Just thinking about Hunter's idea of being able to free yourself from the headcrab's grip). Then also, to make it fair to the Headcrabs, say, everytime the human player has to click during 'struggling', they loose a slight bit of HP, so that say, the headcrab jumps on them and they click enough to take their HP down to 46, then if the headcrab is able to jump on their head once more, they end up taking their health down to 0, then also, the headcrab takes over and they're a zombie.


Um... I had another thought that kind of worked into this one, however I unfortunately lost my train of thought when it was all placed into this post... I'll post any other ideas I come up w/ or remember.

And now, I just remembered another part I was going to add, thankfully in time for an edit:

When the headcrab jumps on the human, it would automatically take a bit a health away, so that the human wouldn't be able to get away with fighting the headcrab during 'struggling' and survive too many times in a row. Wouldn't want the human to be able to get away too often.

As someone else mentioned above, this mod seems to be easier towards the headcrabs...

I'd say and assume some of this would be taken into thought already, the headcrabs would be slower, and maybe less accurate when jumping on heads than the humans who can run and carry weapons, open doors (unless zombies are able to open doors/ break them down? Which is another idea that you can toss around), and the weapons would be quicker and easier and more powerful to use than just... headcrab strength...

Then, as a zombie, you'd get a lot more health, and much more powerful attacks, since taking over a human would be an overtaking move, I'd say you'd deserve the bit more power.


But ANYWAY... I'm just shooting out idea after idea again... SO, I ought to be going again... Later.

I'm not sure if zombies are tough enough to go against humans armed with weapons. The fun of AVP was that aliens were an equal match for the marines.

You also have to make it fun to be a zombie. Shambling around spamming a melee attack isn't very interesting. How about using fast zombies? Or implement the next stage of the Zombie in Opposing Force with enhanced speed and damage.

Also, I think you'd have to have an entire team of headcrabs vs an entire team of humans, because after a human has been assimilated the headcrab is used up.
 
Yes, playing a a normal Zombie would be pretty boring. You're getting some human blowing your brains out and by the time you get to him your dead. Being a gonome (op4) would be very good because they can fire those cool acid balls. :D

Thanks to all you guys who like the idea, and have thrown really useful ideas and suggstions about the mod at me. I didn't really understand that poison zombie one that was posted, but I'll figure it out.

Thank you for that great post, RaBiD WeAzEL. It really sparked off a lot of ideas in how to make the game more interesting. I was trying to think of a way that the player could remove a headcrab, without needing the aid of someone else, and your bar idea seems good. I also think, because this is a survival game at heart, the lower your beginning health when attacked would determine how hard it would be for the bar to go up.
The only problem with this is that I don't want to get sued for breaking people's mice while they furiously slam them on the desk when getting taken over by a headcrab. So I had more of a keyboard combination in mind, but then knowing that some people have trouble with keyboard layouts...

In an earlier post, I noted how you could be many different types of headcrab, and each would evolve into their zombie counterparts when they successfuly attack a human survivor. So you would have fast zombies, and they would be fast and agile, but not very strong.

Also, if you take the black headcrabs abilities straight from Half-life2, then you run into problems. Black Headcrabs can take your health right down to 1hp after an attack, but that does just add to the amount of odds stacked against the humans. So maybe we should leave everything the same in terms of damage caused and such, and have an open-beta with the community, to see what they think we need to do.
Obviously that would be in a few months perhaps. Not too good with timescales ^_^

Anyway thank you for your interest in this, and I'll be working my arse off learning to map and skin better so you can get a quality product.

hey, this is all good, its really going somewhere, also, just to add to these great ideas, i think that if you are a zombie, and get killed by a body shot, you can just jump off and go around as a headcrab again.

EDIT- also, what will you call the mod?

Yeah That's a good idea Hunter, since it's keeping in with what happens in half-life 2.

I don't know what to call the mod, since I'm not sure the names of existing mods for half-life 1 and 2, and if I were to accadently use a name that's being used already, it could lead to complications for either team.

Having said that, Survival would be one idea I would toss around, or perhaps "Mawmania", just as something silly :)
It would be best if the community, who are more clued up on the name situation, thought of one.
 
quick idea again- to make the regular zombies better, you should be able to hit objects at people with the force of the orange grav gun, this would make them a lot better, as it would give them long-range as well.

EDIT- another idea, when you are headcrab, you jump on, manage to crab them. then, a timer appears. as soon as you kill them, it counts down 30 secs. In this 30 secs, you are lying on the ground, you headcrab working away. once it hits 0, you turn into a zombie. after 5 mins, you evolve into a gonome. then 10 mins, evolve into -???
 
^exactly what i was going to say, mabye half gravgun strenth. And make their melee attack stronger, 1 or 2 hits=dead.

nono, zombies should have the full force of the orange grav gun, otherwise it pointless, coz 1 hit= they still alive= death for you
