Just Bought Half Life 2 Silver

And I couldn't be happier. Not only did I get HL2 for almost the same price as the normal boxed version, but since I didn't buy CS:CZ I am getting that on top of it. Frankly unless VUG offers some better deal later (and I have to kick myself), I almost feel like the controversy over the court case has done me a favor.

I think since Vivendi is threatening to delay HL2 for up to six months, VALVe released CS:S as a way to play early, so that eventually Vivendi will have to release HL2 soon or they might lose lots of profits from people just buying it over Steam for lack of patience.

I dont think VU threatened to delay HL2 for six months. But they CAN if they wanted to. We still have no confermation that they will do this. But its highly unlikely

THANK YOU! It's nice to see that some people around here can think about things rationally. There is NO WAY that VUG is going to give up the christmas sales. VUG is in the red this year, and they are most likely banking quite a bit on HL2's holiday season sales.

Whoa whoa whoa, I never said it wasn't going to be released this year, I was just saying that in a worst case scenario (like .000001% chance) and Vivendi wanted to delay for a while, they would be forced to sell early, 'cause every1 would eventually buy it over Steam.

They are most likely finding bugs that they don't want in a game this big. Even small bugs can hurt sales, and they need to make as much money as possible.

Anyway, with FINALLY getting CS:S I'll be able to wait for HL2 for a much longer peroid of time. I'm SO very glad that VALVe is trying to screw VUG, because I'm in love with my gold package. This is by far the coolest thing a game developer has done in the form of a collector's edition.

I gladly paid my $100 knowing that I have all of that neat stuff coming my way. Many people have said that gold is a waste of money, and if you think that then it certainly is. But I like little knick-knacks like the posters and the hat. I will sport my HL2 hat until it falls apart. But if you're not into "stuff" then the silver pakage is the way to go.

YAY VALVe, for finally starting to pull thier heads out of thier asses!

I played CZ today just to see what it's like. I think VALVe should pass it out for free to anyone who owns CS 1.6. It's basically just a small upgrade from what I could tell. I'm SO glad I didn't pay money for that game.

And you're right, CS:S does make it look like a joke. As a matter of fact, it makes ALL other MP games look like a joke IMO.
